1 NEWSLETTER OF THE LILYDALE BOWLING CLUB 8 th February 2019 UPSHOT UPCOMING EVENTS Sunday 10th th February Invitation Fours Tournament Friday 19 th April Good Friday Tournament Monday 22 nd April Easter Monday Tournament Monday 10 th June Queens Birthday Tournament Saturday 15 th June Presentation Day FROM THE BOARD COMMUNICATION The club is currently embarking on the introduction of a new website which has been designed by Bowls Australia and will provide a common platform for all bowling clubs and a will be more user friendly. In today s society we have different mediums that carry messages and information. As with all organisations, communication needs to received and understood by the intended recipients (in our case all our members and our community). We have recognised the challenge of delivering our message with the different mediums which are not embraced by all. It is also important to understand that all mediums cannot deliver all our messages. While it is fine to report some social news and achievements broadly, other information is private and sensitive to our club and therefore the audience should be restricted. It is our intention to continue to promote and develop our social media site and new web site and provide information through our longstanding mediums like the notice board, newsletter and community radio. We ask that that all members pay attention to information on our noticeboards and read our newsletter, which deliver the private and sensitive information and will continue to be delivered in both a soft and hard format. We also ask that if you have information that needs to be shared, that you take the initiative of providing the information to the following: Facebook/Web Site Nicole Morrison nicole.morrison@bigpond.com Newsletter Sue Ingham opt 1 lilydalebowls@hotmail.com Community Radio Trevor Rogers trevor.carol6@bigpond.com
2 BOARD MEETING OUTCOMES A further communication initiative is for the newsletter to provide members of decisions made (motions passed). We will continue to make available minutes of meetings for all members (placed on notice board close to the office) however the board feels there is a need to better communicate decisions. At the meeting on 4 th February the following was passed. To facilitate the develop the area between Greens 2 & 3 and to ensure the processes are subject to due diligence a sub-committee is to be formed. The sub-committee is to consist of Len Cumming Greg Ingham Keith Walton Keith Crossman John Newfound Gino DeVicentiis Honorariums paid to volunteers in the following positions for the 2019/20 season to be: Treasurer $1500 (+$300) Secretary/CCO $1500 (+$300) Bar Manager $1500 (N/C) Cellar Master $1500 (N/C) Greenkeeper $3000 (N/C) Sponsorship Coordinator $500 (+$200) Office Assistant $1500 (New) BOARD & COMMITTEE POSITIONS Listed below is the status of positions at the end of the 2018/19 season. Nomination for board positions and expressions of interest for committee /coordinator positions and the roles attracting honorariums that are vacant can now be made. To assist in the understanding of roles Job Descriptions are being compiled and will be placed on the notice board adjacent to the office. It is a disturbing trend that we see less of us doing more. We have roles and committees within our structures that currently do not exist because they have not been filled in recent times. We ask that you view the positions that are becoming vacant and consider how you can assist YOUR club. Committees need people with different skills and if you only contribute a little you are still spreading the workload. Nominations and Expressions of Interest are to be placed in the box which will be located close to the main entrance. For positions that commence on the 1 st of May (refer to the status of positions listing) the closing date for Expressions of Interest is 2 nd March.
