1 NEWSLETTER No 7 From the pen of our DG Bokkie: I take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones much health, wealth and happiness for the year ahead. Hopefully you are all well rested and enthusiastically planning projects that will restore DIGNITY, HARMONY & HUMANITY to the less privileged in our communities by participating in the International Centenary Challenge of serving 100 million people in the areas of Health, Vision, Hunger & Environment by Do not forget to forward your Activity Report to International so as to earn a Centennial Banner Patch for your club. During the first six months of this year our district has gained 26 new members, but sadly we have lost 45 (-19). Fellow Lions we cannot allow this trend to continue. We need to make a concerted effort between now and June to turn this around. We as District Cabinet will assist clubs where ever needed, but it is the clubs and their members to ASK 1 RETAIN 1 who are responsible to grow their members so as to more effectively serve their respective communities. By now you should have received notification of the Incoming Presidents Workshop to be held in the weekend of May 2016 as well as the Incoming Officers Workshop on 28 May 2016 (Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers & ZC). I appeal to all to attend these workshops as new and innovative material has been put together to assist you in your duties for your terms of office. Finally for those wishing to attend the MD Convention in Ballito Bay KZN at the beginning of May, please ensure you register now. Yours in Lionism Bokkie DG Bokkie presented Lion Pieter van Huysteen of Uitenhage Lions Club with his award for 30 years service as a Lion. A big Congratulations from the Lions of Uitenhage and District 410D to Lion Pieter on this "anniversary". 1

2 From the pen of our DG s wife LL Marie Wishing all Lions partners, families and friends a Prosperous Blessed New Year. For those coming into office, start preparing now, time is short and waits for no man. Our blankets are coming on really nicely. Thanks to all those who contributed and still continue to knit. Well, as I mentioned, time is of the essence, and I need help. I am busy with the DG Scrapbook and here are some ideas. Each club will have their own section. On the front page will be the President, his Spouse and Board members if he wishes. All clearly labelled. The inside pages will be all your functions, fundraisers and projects. All photos must have the key people s names and what is happening. Remember a stranger will be looking at the book and wants to know what is going on. Could each club please forward the photos a soon as possible, it will be a huge task. It would be easier to forward all information to Gloria as my computer is not functional. Many thanks for your co-operation. Looking forward to the Cabinet meeting in Uitenhage on Keep up the good hard work, may you all have a fruitful God Bless Marie Uitenhage Lions Club Water donations made by Uitenhage Lions in this time of crisis and need in our Country. We Lions under the convening of Lion Barry Jones assisted in Riebeek College water collection by donating 10 cases of lion water for their distribution. Convenor, Lion Claude Smith and fellow Lions donated 100 5lt bottles of water to the "Gee water...gee lewe" campaign at Levyvale Super Spar. With this we hope to share and give a little hope to those suffering in this drought. 2

3 St Croix Lions Club Medical equipment and other items were collected under the guidance of Lion s Collette, Sanet and Sandi and donated to Dora Nginza Hospital where they are needed. Gift-wrapping Project at Metlife Plaza Well over R was collected and will be shared among the charities who assisted Thank you and handover off Christmas Wrapping Project money raised, divided between the charities: Retina SA, Sinako We Can, Meals on Wheels, The Sanctuary, Autism EC, Algoa House of Hope and Light your World Foundation. Christmas Cheer at Quad House The Lions of St Croix delivered 9 Christmas cakes to Quad house, kindly donated by Ray Koen, Lions Taryn & Wesley and Helper Jordyn went to deliver on our behalf 3
