1 The PropWash Newsletter of the Tri-County Barnstormers R/C Club Club Officers President Kirk Jensen Vice President Keith Jarvis Treasurer Sam Barrett Secretary & Webmaster Larry Bonnette Inside this Issue Words from the President Words from the Vice President Words from the Treasurer New Officers Builder s Corner Next meeting February 6, 2014 The Tri-county Barnstormers hold monthly meetings at 7:30 PM on the first Thursday of each month at the Conroe Friendship Center. 1. Words from the President Kirk Jensen I want to thank you for letting me be the president of the Barnstormers for the 2014 year. I will try to do the best job possible. I want to also thank those that also are new this year. Thanks Robert Minieri and the other departing officials for a job well done. And welcome back those that have stayed on for For those that don t know me, I have been a club member since I seem to have been through all facets of the hobby such as Pattern, IMAC, and Scale etc. but lately have really been enjoying Helicopters, Turbine Jets (flown at Bomber Field) and FPV. I plan on hosting the B.E.S.T. event again in October. And I have applied to have our club host one leg of the Curtis Youngblood Stingray races. For those that don t know, Curtis Youngblood produces a quadcopter with variable pitch and hosts a racing league for them. He shows up with all the needed items for the day and even has spares for demos. It should be a huge draw and a lot of fun. The club is also looking for someone to take over the duties of creating the Prop wash newsletter. We will set up some deadlines and get some content issued to end the frustrations of the past.. If you have an interest please contact an officer of the club. The club has a lot to talk about and accomplish in the coming year so plan on attending the meetings and join in the discussions and fun. See you then

2 2. Words from the Vice President Keith Jarvis The PropWash Newsletter of the Tri-County Barnstormers R/C Club learn and a short time to learn it but I feel I have some great help. I am looking forward to a great year of flying and events, and hope to contribute to accomplishing our goals. Also, everybody come to the meetings, they are for everyone one of us and it gives everybody the opportunity to contribute. Hope to see you there and at the field! Bird and BEST and were blessed with having no reported serious injuries to our pilots or spectators while enjoying this hobby. We filed our first Form 990 with the IRS in the month of November and our club is compliant with all state and federal reporting as a non-profit. It has been a good year for the treasury and the club is financially ready for the coming year. I wanted to say thanks for the opportunity to serve the club as the VP for the 2014 year. I have been a member of this club for about seven years and primarily fly the big birds but still have my smaller nitro planes and electrics and just recently acquired a heli.(that could be interesting) I really enjoy our club, its members and the fellowship it brings. It is a privilege to be able to give something back in return for what I have gained from the club and I will sure give it my all to do the best job possible. 3. Words from the Treasurer Sam Barrett This year, the President and Vice President were passing the baton and their responsibilities to newly elected officers. The outgoing officers Robert Minieri and Robert Cook have given much time and energy to their duties and can be proud of the accomplishments in our membership and club. We heartily thank the outgoing officers for their service. There will be no January meeting for the general membership but the new officers will meet in January to discuss finances and plans for the coming year. I also want to again thank the outgoing board members for their service the past year and thanks to those who are continuing on this year. I look forward to working with you and pick up where we left off to continue to move forward. I have a lot to The December meeting was a great event to wrap up a very successful Barnstormer year. We had twenty three new members join the club this past year, made improvements to the field, had two very successful events in Big At this year s December meeting we had a sparse swap meet, which may be a result of the cold & wet weather which blew in during the day of the meeting or a testament to the love our members have for their current models & accessories and their

3 reluctance to part with them for mere money. However, the pot luck supper was well supported and I don t think anybody left hungry or missed tasting very many of the great food dishes brought by the members. Thanks to Gary Baumgartner for volunteering to select and prepare the club s meat dish and thanks to the members and their wives who attended and brought a great variety of delicious side dishes and desserts. Maybe we need to think about having at least one more meeting during the year, inviting members to bring their wives or schedule a family day at the field with some outdoor cooking. Don t forget that many of our annual AMA memberships expire at the end of this month. Get yours renewed if you plan on flying after December 31 st! I ll be updating the member list at the field to indicate those who are legal to fly in January, so renew early to ensure we have an accurate list. Happy Holidays to all and see you at the next meeting on February 6 th! 4. Words from the Secretary Larry Bonnette December 4, 2013 Start time: 7:30 PM Members present: 38 Meeting notes recorded by Kirk Jensen Meeting called to order at 7:40 We had a short meeting while the pot luck was being prepared by member wives. We had a great food turnout, too much for sure. Thank you to the folks that brought food and for the preparers for sure. Minutes were approved from the last meeting. Sam: Power relays installed on the 12V power supply. Round plug is the 100A supply and standard plug is the 50A supply. The relay controls both supplies. There is a need for weed control in the runway as small weeds are poking thru the petro-mat. It was brought up that we need to replace the ceiling fan in the impound area and the others that are outdoors most likely need to be replaced as well. Gary will look into it. Gary B: All fire extinguishers were checked out for their annual inspection. One was found to have been used and hung back up empty by a member. We need to notify the officers when one is used so that it can be replaced. New AMA magazine has the 2014 rule changes. Those that fly GPS and stabilized craft such as quads should look at rule 560. Those that fly FPV should look at rule 550 Sam: We have 168 members with 23 joining in Robert transferred the president and vice president duties to Kirk Jensen and Keith Jarvis. The meeting was adjourned and we all ate very well. Most stayed till 9:00 chatting and swapping items with others as it was the swap meet meeting. The name tag award was won by Kraig Hubbard. Meeting adjourned at 8:

5 5. The Builder s Corner Special Submission by Bud Brinkley Bud is skipping this month to focus on personal matters. He plans to continue his series soon! Field Damage The picture below from Ray Brickhouse Field shows one of two rutted areas discovered on Tuesday morning which are believed to have been made between late afternoon Sunday, October 20th and Tuesday, October 22nd. If you caused the damage to the infield surface and in front of the deck at north end of the pavilion please return and make the necessary fill and repairs to restore the field to its flat and undamaged condition. If you know who caused the damage, please let us know who and when the damage was done. If the club has to repair the damage, we will bill the member or guest for the cost of those repairs
