2 THE LINKS, INCORPORATED San Francisco Chapter Since 1950 October 1, 2013 Dear Friends of SF Links, On November 24, 2013, the San Francisco Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, will again partner with SFJAZZ to present an outstanding afternoon of Jazz at the luminous new SFJAZZ Center at the corner of Franklin and Fell streets in San Francisco. Jason Moran, jazz pianist and composer, 2011 Critics Pick for Jazz Artist, Jazz Album and Jazz Pianist of the year, musical advisor of Jazz at the Kennedy Center, and resident artistic director at SFJAZZ, will appear in concert with Randy Weston & Billy Harper at 3:00 PM. We invite you to join us as a sponsor of SFLINKS@SFJAZZ this year, to present these outstanding and accomplished artists to our community and assist the SF Links in our community outreach. Your sponsorship will help us continue to provide financial and hands-on support for San Francisco community based organizations, initiatives and programs through SFLinksConnect, our intergenerational preventive health and wellness campaign. As you may know, The Links, Incorporated, founded in 1946, is an international organization of over 12,000 professional women of color who are committed to purposeful service. The San Francisco Chapter was chartered in 1950 and since its inception has been committed to serving the underserved in the San Francisco Community. Since 2005 the chapter has focused its programs and service delivery in the Bayview Hunters Point (BVHP) community, in recognition of the community s many health and wellness related needs. We have partnered or collaborated with community organizations (California Transplant Donor Network, Kaiser Permanente African American Health Initiative, Arthur Coleman Medical Center, and Bayview YMCA), which focus on improving Health and Wellness in the Bayview Hunters Point Community. Most recently we have partnered with Kaiser Permanente, The California Endowment, Dignity Health, California Black Health Network, California Pan Ethnic Health Network, AARP, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid/HHS, Black Coalition on AIDS / Rafiki Wellness, Bayview HEAL Zone and the San Francisco Department of Public Health to deliver health advocacy programs ( The Waiting Room Film Screening and Panel Discussion ) relative to healthcare reform (Affordable Care Act Education Day) and the immediate health access needs of Bayview Hunters Point residents. On the international scene we are developing our service program for female college youth from Bayview Hunters Point to serve as peer counselors, mentors, and cultural role models for female teens of Liberia expanding our wellness initiatives across the miles. We envision benefits for each group of young women to develop meaningful relationships, enhanced self-esteem, motivation, and greater awareness of the global society in which they live. This year s fundraiser will continue our tradition of promoting Jazz as an American art form while furthering jazz music as a healing force and experience for wellness. This intergenerational event creates a unique opportunity for our families, friends and community, as jazz music in all its

3 dimensions is a holistic way to communicate and relate with one another; speaking to our hearts and our souls. In celebration of SFLINKS@ SFJAZZ, The San Francisco Links with the help of StoryCorps, a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to preserve the stories of their lives, will bring together San Franciscans to record the influence and impact of Jazz in their lives. Together with StoryCorps, SF Links will celebrate these interviews and their archiving at the American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress with a Special Community Listening Reception in One of the highlights of this year s event will be the presentation of the Western Area Links Meritorious Service Award in honor of Mrs. June R. Wallace, who has been a champion for Health and Wellness in the Bayview Hunters Point community for almost a decade. We are also awarding community organizations who have excelled in service related to our facets Health and Human Services, Services to Youth, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services, and The Arts with the SFLinksConnect Community Service Award. These organizations are exemplary partners helping to advance our vision of Building Healthy Communities Together. Over 600 guests will be in attendance at this year s concert, but hundreds more will be aware of your support through our promotional activities. What differentiates the contribution that you make? You will be an advocate for wellness and social responsibility in our communities and a direct benefactor for community residents to attend the concert. At each giving level a number of concert seats are available to your company/organization and more importantly made available to community residents who may otherwise not have the opportunity to attend. These residents are serviced by organizations, such as, Bayview Hunters Point Multipurpose Senior Center, 3 rd Street Youth Clinic, Hunters Point Family, and Bayview Opera House. These organizations, and the community residents they serve, would be recipients of your generous gift. Participation in this community event represents a solid marketing investment on your part.
