Page 2
3 Overview April 12 & 13, 2012 Hershey Lodge and Convention Center Hershey, PA You are cordially invited to the 2012 Family Group Leadership Event presented by the Pennsylvania Family Group Decision Making Leadership Team. The event theme is Family Group Decision Making -The Next Level: Building upon Our Success. Family Group Decision Making (FGDM) has spread across the world, including Pennsylvania, as best practice in working with families. As of 2011, approximately 65 of 67 counties in Pennsylvania have implemented FGDM in their agencies. Now that it has been incorporated into Pennsylvania practice, you may ask (or have been asked) how FGDM has influenced the families we serve by providing the opportunity to address a wide variety of family issues using a least restrictive, cost effective process. The goal of this event is to provide insight on how Family Group Decision Making has changed practice including engagement with families, court hearings, and helping with decision making within families. You will hear from panel members such as family members, judges, practitioners, and supervisors from across Pennsylvania that have been influenced by FGDM and have included FGDM in their work and family decisions. After panel presentations, counties will be asked to join together and develop goals and outcomes your team wishes to accomplish to continue to ensure that Family Group Decision Making is enriched throughout your county. The benefit from these discussions will be greatly enhanced by county team member selection. As such, we are suggesting that you consider the following members to create a well rounded team: Courts Judges, Hearing Officers, Guardian Ad Litems, Parent Attorneys, Solicitors Agencies Administrators, Managers, Supervisors, Direct Service staff Counties Commissioners, Cross-system Leaders Communities - Providers, Families Please join us at this event which will provide you with an opportunity to learn, re-energize, build on your existing strengths, and share ideas with others. The Pennsylvania Family Group Leadership Team looks forward to seeing you there! Page 3
