Check out the Transport Police stand; get some tips on staying safe when you travel home over the holidays. Domestic Violence Campaign The Woodhouse Educators Group recognizes that not only women are victims of domestic violence, men are too. We feel that it is important to lend our support to these male victims, and end the stigma they face regarding domestic violence. 3 Careers Workshop: Getting into a competitive school leaver scheme, KPMG, Wednesday 10 December 1.30pm pm, Careers Room (R30), - all students welcome. When you apply to the prestigious KPMG school leaver scheme or others run by big companies, it can be daunting. This workshop will take you through the KPMG process of application. Have original ideas for fundraising? Want to do some volunteering and gain work experience? Educate for Change looks after orphans in Uganda, helping them with school fees, clothes, food and healthcare. We need to raise funds to help more orphans and are seeking a team of volunteer fundraisers at Woodhouse. 4 Woodhouse Crisis At Christmas Charity Appeal The average life expectancy of a male living on the streets is forty seven. The Crisis At Christmas collection for the homeless is a well established tradition amongst Woodhouse students and staff. Each year car loads of boxes packed to capacity are delivered to centres set up by the CRISIS charity for the homeless in the London area, thanks to your generosity and to Michelle Junnor (our LRC manager) who transports the boxes to the centres for us in time for Christmas. We now invite you to donate items from this year's wish list, (available from your tutor and on Woodle), for your tutor group collection box. Your reps and deputies will coordinate the collection. Alternatively you could choose a monetary collection for the charity (ask your tutor for more info). Thanks in advance for supporting such a worthwhile cause and helping make a homeless person's Christmas that bit more special. Mary Mc Hugh Your Christmas Playlist Now it's December you will be beginning to feel Christmassy and the want to spread some festive cheer! So please complete the survey on Woodle to tell us what your favourite Christmas song of all time is and we will include the most popular ones in our Christmas playlist which we will share with you the last week of term. Design a Christmas Card Competition If you're feeling a bit creative why not enter our Design a Woodhouse Christmas Card competition. All you have to do is design the front of the card. We are open to all ideas but would like a design/image that we can use on a card - landscape or portrait that captures the festive spirit. 5 Candy Cane Deliveries for Christmas Your tutor group rep will be taking orders for these in today s tutorial so please have a think about who you might like to deliver a candy cane & special Christmas message to! There will be a small charge only for the delivery service. Offers and Promotions of the Week Monday buy a slice of pizza and get a bottle of water for free. Thursday Christmas lunch. We will also have a salad bar, jacket potatoes, sandwiches, baguettes and wraps. As the whole counter will be taken over for Christmas lunch there will be no other hot food. Buy any salad box and get a half price fruit pot. Running all week. Celebrating the Diversity of our Students and Staff Religious/Cultural Festivals this week (If we have left out any important festivals that you are involved in, please tell your Personal Tutor.) Monday 8 December is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (Christian). (Celebrated by Roman Catholics who remember Mary s Conception as being without sin, therefore, immaculate.) Monday 8 December is Bodhi Day (Buddhist). (On Bodhi day some Buddhist celebrate Gautama s attainment of enlightenment under the Bodhi tree at Bodhgaya, India.) Saturday 13 December is the St Lucy s Day (Christian). (Celebrated by Catholics, Orthodox Christians and the Lutheran Church.) Page 5
