2 Welcome Team Captains... Congratulations on making the commitment to form a team for the Komen Northeast Arkansas Race for the Cure! Team Captains are leaders and will be an important piece of the success of this Race, therefore helping further our mission to end breast cancer. Your hard word and dedication will save lives. And for that, we can not say thank you enough. As Team Captain, you are MORE THAN PINK! You will have tremendous success in recruiting your team members and encouraging them to BE MORE THAN PINK by raising funds to help the women in our communities who need mammograms, treatment and survivor services. The funds raised will also be used for ground breaking research for better treatments and ultimately to find a cure. All the tools for your success are right here! Everything you need -- from tips to recruit your team of 10 or more, tips to encourage fundraising, a registration overview, and information about the many available contests and prizes for motivation. A Message from your 2018 Teams & Fundraising Chair... If this is your first year as Team Captain, you are in for a great experience! If you were a Team Captain last year, I am so happy you are joining us for our second Race! Being a Team Captain is a challenging but incredibly rewarding responsibility. Your experience will be life-changing for you, your team members and the thousands of people touched by this disease. As you build your MIGHTY team, no matter what the size, I want to share some words of inspiration from Margaret Mead: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Please remember that every step you take and every dollar you raise helps to save the lives of women we all know and love within the place we call home. Beyond our community, donations fund groundbreaking research that will improve the way breast cancers are treated in the future. Start building your team early. The sooner you get it going, the more funds you'll raise and the bigger your team's impact will be. 3 Team Captain's Job As the Captain of a team, you will be the primary point of contact for your team members. It is your job to create the team, invite people to join your team, and keep members motivated, inspired and informed of your team's progress. Team Captain's Checklist Register for the Race as a Team Captain at Recruite a minimum of 10 people to join your team. Encourage team members to register as a Virtual participant if they can not attend the Race Set a fundraising goal for your team and encourage each team member to set their own individual goals. Check out the fundraising contests to enjoy a little healthy competition! If you are a company team, ask your employer if the company will contribute or match your fundraising total. Display Race information around your office, campus, break-room, etc. Ensure that information is visible in high traffic areas. Don't forget to include your name and contact information in case someone has questions about your team or the Race. Motivate your team! Team packets will be picked up by the team captain or their designee and distributed before entering the stadium Motivate Your Team! Play. Create an activity that brings your team together to bond. Throw a potluck or a family picnic. Have a bowling competition, wine tasting, bike ride or team walk. The ideas are endless. Theme your team. Come up with a meaningful name so that your team members can talk passionately about it to donors. Design team t-shirts to wear with pride. Fundraise. Inform your team on the importance of fundraising. Remind them that their registration fee gets them to the start line, but their fundraising dollars get us closer to the cures. Set Goals. Come up with a fundraising goal as a team. Encourage each team member to set their own goals and share the tools to help them succeed. Educate. Provide your team members with a background of Komen Arkansas and our mission. They will be motivated knowing their dollars make a difference. Organize. A team captain should keep track of each team member's progress. Get back on track. If teammates are running out of ideas or motivation, plan an event to benefit everyone. Be there for your teammates with advice, support, understanding and information.

4 Building Your Team Potential team members are everywhere and most likely you will find team recruitment easy and fun! Your community is full of people who would be happy and excited to join you in the fight against breast cancer. Corporations, organizations, schools, friends, family members, neighbors - ANYONE can join your team! A team is 10 or more registered participants. When you start your team, you will be asked to select a team category. The categories are: Family and Friends Small Businesses Large Businesses Churches Schools and Universities Community Groups Health Care Government Offices Tips for recruiting team members 1. If you are setting up a team at work, have a friendly competition for participation between departments. Publicize your team in company newsletters and on the web. 2. Customize your team's web page in the Race Participation Center. Share a personal story and photo of a team member. the link to your friends and family and ask them to consider joining your team. Include the link on all of your social networking sites. 3. Host a team Kick-Off Party and educate potential members about the Komen Northeast Arkansas Race for the Cure. Encourage them to join you! 4. Recruit co-captains to help you spread the word. 5. Set up a registration table at work, school, your place of worship, etc. Make it easy and convenient to learn about your team. 6. Post team registration information in places that are visible to potential team members. Ensure that your contact information is included for any questions. 7. Design a team t-shirt and share it with potential team members. Teams love to wear a team t-shirt in solidarity! Virtual Runner Even if you can't make it to the Race for the Cure, you can still make a difference by registering as a VIRTUAL runner. You will receive a Race t-shirt! Kids for the Cure You don't have to be a grownup to Race for the Cure! Kids ages 5-12 can join your team as a YOUTH participant.

5 Team FUNdraising As the leader of your team, and a leader in the fight to end breast cancer, it's important for you to know and share the impact of fundraising. This is being MORE THAN PINK! Funds raised for the Komen Northeast Arkansas Race for the Cure battles breast cancer on all fronts. A donation is MORE than dollars. It's a real difference made through the people in our community, for the women in our community. Beginning close to home, we use the dollars wisely, locally and in ways that directly benefit women, men and families who are dealing with the costly challenge of breast cancer. We also empower local dollars to serve beyond our community as they fund a significant portion of the best breast cancer research around the world. Make a little add up to a lot: Ask 10 friends for $10. Tips for Success 1. Lead by example! Excitement is contagious! It is crucial that your teammates see and feel your dedication and enthusiasm. The best way to inspire your team members to raise funds is to start fundraising yourself! Set up your personal fundraising page and show it off! 2. Ask! Now is not the time to be shy! Ask anyone and everyone to support your efforts. Make it clear that no amount is too small because every contribution makes a difference. In most cases, people donate their time or money simply because they were asked. Ask your company if there is a Matching Gift Program. 3. Communicate! Let everyone know that you are parcticipating in the Race for the Cure. Inform everyone of your fundraisign goal and let everyone know your purpose is to eradicate breast cancer. Send s, post information, talk about your team's involvement as often as you can!use your team's web page to keep your team members informed of the goal and provide updates on how close you are to reaching it. 4. Get competitive! Enjoy and encourage a little healthy competition. Inform your team members of the incentive prizes not only for you and them, but for your team as a whole! Keep in mind that as your team members raise funds, your team total increases. For prize details, see the next page! Who to Ask Anyone is a potential donor. Ask people that you see everyday. Go through your phone list / address book, lists, work rolodex, etc. Think of EVERYONE you know who might support you in this great endeavor. Survivors fundraise on average more than non-survivors. Encourage all survivors to use their experiences to PAY IT FORWARD! By adding the Komen Race for the Cure Fundraising application to your Facebook page, you can easily extend your efforts to your network of friends on Facebook. To get started: Go to your Participant Center and log in. Click on the Impact App through Facebook to install. Follow the Facebook steps and start collecting donations from your Facebook friends.

Creating a one-of-a-kind shirt for your team gives you an opportunity to represent yourselves in a unique way for a wonderful cause! There are only 3 rules: - Please do not use a pink shirt - Please do not use the Komen logo, other than the Official Logos above. - Deadline to submit is noon on Friday, April 27; at the Race Space. Shirts will not be returned. Enter a shirt into the contest to win a prize for your team. All entered shirts will be displayed on the arch at the Stadium Saturday morning. The winner will be announced at the Pasta Party as well as at the Race!

11 Komen Northeast Arkansas Race for the Cure 2018 Discount Code Request If a company or team would like to pay the registration fee for participants, this form should be used to request a Discount Code from the Komen Arkansas office. Or, if a Team Captain plans to pay the registration fee for the members or collect the members' fees and submit them as one payment, this form should be used. The Discount Code can be set up for all or a portion of the registration fee. Please note your preference on this form. Discounts may be used for registration fees only. It cannot be applied to other items for purchase such as Pink Pasta Party tickets or Komen Memberships. It is the responsibility of the individual completing the request to distribute the code to employees/team members who are allowed to use the code. Invoicing will be done after the Race. All invoices will be mailed to the address you provide below. Invoices will include the amount owed to Komen Arkansas with the remit to address. Payment may be made by check or credit card. PLEASE include an copy of the invoice with your payment. And, if paying by check, please make note of the discount code number. To receive a Discount Code, a credit card is required to be put on file. The card will only be used if you specify that it is the preferred method of payment OR if there is failure to submit payment by the due date. 12 Get Started! To get started, follow these simple steps: Step 1. The Team Captain must register first and create the team before members can join. -Go to and choose Northeast Arkansas Race for the Cure from the tabs at the top of the page -Click the Register button and click Start A Team -Follow the instructions to completion Step 2. Choose a team name and select the team division that best describes your team. Step 3. Invite friends, co-workers and family to join you! You must have a minimum of 10 to be a team. , Facebook or tweet everyone you know and invite them to race and fundraise with you. Step 4. Set up your team web page. After you register, log in to your Fundraising Center to add a photo of your team, set a fundraising goal and tell everyone why you race for the cure. Step 5. Team Captains or their designee should pick up packets and distribute to members BEFORE entering the stadium. A race bib is required to enter the stadium for the opening ceremony. Team Captain Notes
