2 INTRO On 12 April 1980 Terry Fox embarked on a cross-canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of cancer eventually forced him to end his quest and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy. Since the first Marathon of Hope in 1980, Terry Fox s legacy has continued and now more than 9,000 runs are held each year across the globe. These runs are organized and led by volunteers who have helped raise $700 million CAD for cancer research to date. The runs in the UAE have cumulatively raised AED 22 million. His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Advisor to His Highness the Ruler of the UAE, has been our Patron since the first Terry Fox Run Abu Dhabi held in His Excellency's generous endorsement and support has helped each of the Terry Fox Runs in Abu Dhabi to enjoy tremendous success over the years. Each year has seen increases in both the number of participants and the total funds raised. Naturally, we always obtain permission for the Terry Fox Run Abu Dhabi from the authorities and have greatly appreciated the assistance provided annually by the Abu Dhabi s government authorities. The Terry Fox Run Abu Dhabi is not a race. The reward is in simply participating. We have participants of all ages, from newborns to those well into their 70s and beyond. Across the last 20 years, thousands of people participated in the Run and helped raise millions of Dirhams. Every Dirham was allocated directly into innovative, carefully vetted and world-class cancer research projects in the UAE. We are confident that the Terry Fox Run Abu Dhabi on 19 April 2019 will be another amazing event. We can only do this with your support. There is no entry fee or minimum donation expected from teams or participants. The only expectations are the ones you have for yourself.
