1 e - Bulletin Number 11 Week ending 23 November 2018 Next Week Week 2 28 November: ASA Meeting A full calendar is available on our website School News and Notices Rotary Shoebox Challenge Rotary send shoeboxes full of gifts to children and families in need in Eastern Europe. Students are being encouraged to fill a shoebox (or two) and earn house points. Boxes can be purchased from the KS3 canteen for 1. Return boxes to student reception by 3.20pm Monday 9 th December. Please visit for more information. Yoga In recent weeks a number of classes have had the chance to participate in yoga taster sessions in their PE lessons. Sessions have been lead by qualified instructor, Emma Parkes-McQueen, who is going to be starting an after-school yoga club here in the Aspire studio. There will be a signup sheet in the Sportshall for students to register their interest. For further information please see details of Emma Parkes-McQueen yoga sessions. info@lovefromyoga.com FB lovefromyoga Uniform Purchase Changes As was advised in the e-bulletin prior to half-term, we are improving the way school uniform items are purchased. The new process will commence January 2019 and details will follow shortly. Meanwhile, there will be a period during the transition when uniform will be unavailable to order; if your child is likely to need any new items for the return after the Christmas break, please place your order before 30 November. Uniform Reminder Winter has hit this week and we are reminding students to wear suitable coats and warm weather gear, no hoodies please. Rotary Club Youth Speaks Competition On Tuesday 20th November, twelve Ashlyns students from Years 7-9 competed in the local heats of the Rotary Club Youth Speaks Competition. The standard this year was particularly high and we were thrilled that two of the teams from Ashlyns were awarded the top prizes of winner and runner-up in this round, progressing to the next stage of the competition. We d like to give a huge congratulations to all the students that took part in delivering their presentations. Key dates: 28 November: ASA meeting 30 November: Occasional Day, school closed to students 30 November: Last day for uniform orders 7 December: ASA Wreath Making 8 December: ASA Chapel Decorating 9 December: Carol Concert in the Chapel, 4pm 12 December: Senior Citizens Carol Concert 21 December: Last day of termschool closes at 12.20pm This week s attachments New Wisepay App Dyslexia Support Group Autism/ADHD Drop-in Support Group Surviving The Spectrum Course ASA Easyfundraising ASA Christmas Wreath Making This week s letters: Year 10 and 11 Language Revision Guides GCSE PE Swimming Assessment Year 12 Morrisby Profile E-safety information for parents: Musical.ly new name - TikTok The social network app Musical.ly has often given adults cause for concern, because of the way that children use it to generate and share their own short videos and lip sync to popular audio clips. The app has a new name and new features, and now includes live streaming. Although the app has an age-limit of 13 years old, in practice younger children may be using it, and the content may not be suitable. Unfortunately profiles on TikTok are automatically set to public, so that any content you post can be seen by anyone within the app. There is a Restricted Mode which can help to filter out inappropriate content and prevent the user from being able to start their own live streams. You can find out more here: ASA News on next page
