American Cancer Society Walk & Roll ACS_WalkRoll WalkRollChicago_ACS Thank you for taking a leadership role at Walk & Roll 2015 the walking, biking, and skating event that helps the American Cancer Society fight back against cancer. In this guide you ll find all the information you need to make Walk & Roll a fun and successful day for your entire team.

2 THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE ONLY WALKING, BIKING, AND SKATING EVENT THAT HELPS FIGHT BACK AGAINST CANCER! In the fight to save lives from cancer, every dollar matters. The funds you raise for Walk & Roll 2015 will support the American Cancer Society s mission to save lives by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO FINISH THE FIGHT. HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR FUNDRAISING SUCCESS: Set a challenging fundraising goal. Aim high! Your team will enjoy a tremendous sense of achievement when you reach or exceed your goal together. Make it personal. Real-life stories motivate people to give, so make them part of your fundraising asks. Encourage team members to send a letter or to family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors about their commitment to Walk & Roll. If you re leading a returning team, set a group goal of reaching out to twice as many people as you did last year. HELP YOUR TEAM SUCCEED! Make sure your team members know about the individual incentive and team recognition programs. Visit walkrollchicago.org for additional details TOP FUNDRAISERS Go social. Share your personal fundraising page via social media. Top Corporate Teams: Capture the match. Team members can double or even triple their donations by finding out if their employers match charitable gifts. Donors should check with their companies, too. Visit matchinggifts.com/acs for a list of participating employers. BP $128, Urbanski United $37,320 Gold Eagle $35,361 Team Continental $34,525 One Anixter $30, Spread the word. Share the news of your efforts at work, the gym, your place of worship, service club, etc. Use Walk & Roll pledge sheets or s that direct people to your team fundraising page to make it easy for them to donate. Top Family and Friends Teams: Recognize your supporters. Team members can use our Walk & Roll pledge cards to honor donors by creating a Wall of Hope at work or in the community. You can also thank donors by name on your team fundraising page. Partner with local businesses. Check with local retailers who may also be willing to sponsor a Wall of Hope with in-store donations. Make change. Encourage your team to place a Walk & Roll coin can/jar at work so colleagues can donate loose change to support your team. Fill a water bottle with dimes for a quick $100; a little spare change can add up to a lot! Offer dress down days. Ask employers to approve a casual dress or jeans day in exchange for donations. Derby Lite $23, Celine s Team $9,930 Team Grga $8,410 Fight with Susan $5,255 Apostolic Church of God Breast Cancer Support Group $3,822 Top Individuals: Heidi Wolfe $20,721 Mike Leibman $12,770 Rick Marder $9,896 Jamie Boothroyd $8,580 Jack Smith $8,135 Visit walkrollchicago.org for more fundraising ideas and tools.

3 PLANNING A GREAT DAY Team members who raise $100 or more will receive an official Walk & Roll T-shirt. Tents and tent space will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. More information will be provided through s and the event website. All tent locations must be reserved through the Society office. Please call to reserve your tent spot today. Arrange for your team to meet in a specific area the morning of the event. Plan a picnic and enjoy the entertainment provided. Remind your team to wear broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, sunglasses, and a hat. Encourage survivors and caregivers on your team to visit the Survivor Tent for activities and gifts. Make copies of the route map and directions for everyone on your team. The walk route is stroller and wheelchair accessible. Water will be provided along the route at rest stops. Make the most of your day by participating in family activities and entertainment. To learn more about the activities taking place, please visit walkrollchicago.org for the schedule of events. Call your American Cancer Society staff person at with questions. Visit walkrollchicago.org for additional information about team tents and guidelines, a complete schedule of event activities, the route map, parking instructions, and more. PLEDGE COLLECTION TIPS All Walk & Roll event donations raised online are automatically processed and credited to your team. If you are collecting pledges in cash or check form, please follow these steps to ensure proper handling of your donations: Print your name on each pledge or donation form to ensure you/your team receives appropriate credit. Checks should be made payable to the American Cancer Society. Donations are tax-deductible. Be sure to ask donors who contribute $20 or more (via cash or check) for their mailing address. They will be mailed a receipt. Please do not bundle all team money together. Keep each participant s pledges with their own registration form. We encourage you to turn in all donations as you receive them. Any funds not turned in by event day can be brought to the registration tent the morning of the event. Donations collected after the event should be mailed by June 19, 2015 to: American Cancer Society, Inc. Attn: Walk & Roll Chicago 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1200 Chicago, IL Have matching gifts? 5 YOUR CONTRIBUTION CAN HELP SAVE LIVES. Your support enables the American Cancer Society to help those touched by cancer and continue our lifesaving mission in so many ways. You may not know all the American Cancer Society is doing thanks to our generous donors. Simply put: we save lives by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against cancer. Stay Well The American Cancer Society helps people live healthier lives by preventing cancer or finding it early, when it s most treatable. Get Well The American Cancer Society is committed to helping people get well by guiding cancer patients and their families through their cancer experience and relieving some of the emotional and financial burdens that a cancer diagnosis can bring. Find Cures The American Cancer Society funds and conducts groundbreaking research that helps us understand cancer s causes, determine how best to prevent it, and discover new ways to cure it. As the largest private, not-for-profit funder of cancer research, we ve played a role in almost every major cancer breakthrough in recent history. Fight Back The American Cancer Society empowers those touched by cancer to fight back by working with legislators to pass laws to help fight cancer and rally communities worldwide to join the fight. The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network SM the Society s nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate is the nation s leading cancer advocacy organization that is working every day to make cancer issues a national priority. The Society s toll-free information line ( ) and website (cancer.org) are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering comprehensive information about cancer and related services that help cancer patients and their families make informed decisions about their care. We re fighting back in Illinois. Here are just a few ways we re making an impact: Each year, nearly 1,000 nights of free and reduced-rate lodging are provided to cancer patients and their families traveling away from home for treatment. The American Cancer Society provides more than 33,000 free rides for cancer patients to and from treatment and medical appointments through our Road To Recovery program every year in Illinois. Each year, more than 1.5 million Illinoisans visit cancer.org and more than 32,000 Illinois-based calls are answered by our trained cancer information specialists at our 24-hour information line, The American Cancer Society is currently investing more than $23 million toward 45 research grants in Illinois.
