Clubs & Organizations Please contact: Kristina@northbaldwinchamber.com The North Baldwin area is rich in community spirit and we proudly demonstrate it on a daily basis through our community clubs and organizations. Some are civic, others simply gather for the love of their cause. (In some cases, dues may apply) 5 Arts Club Based in Stockton, this group focuses on five different artistic areas: -Literature -Architecture -Music - Painting -Sculpture This group was created by Mr. I.P. Mason in 1925 in order to encourage the appreciation, love and study of the five arts. The club s motto is The goo, the beautiful, the true. The club colors are red, yellow and blue, and their flowers are roses, lilies and violets. They meet monthly. Bay Minette Beautification Committee In a mission statement adopted in 2012, the Beautification Committee is dedicated to the improvement of our community. This small group of dedicated individuals has worked tirelessly in cooperation with the city s grounds department to stimulate and promote our city s appearance.

2 Each month a business and residential home within Bay Minette city limit is acknowledged and promoted. Browsers Book Club Approximately 7 years old, they get together on the third Monday of each month at 1:30 pm in the Bay Minette Library s Program room. Flip Flop Book Club Approximately 9 years old and meets the 2 nd Monday of each month at 1:30 pm at the Bay Minette Senior Center. Heritage Junior Women s Club HJWC is a local women's organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. The HJWC meets from August to May each year on the 4 th Tuesday of the month at 6pm at the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce office. The HJWC holds several fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for various organizations and causes in our community. Each fall, club members host a plant sale to raise money for the Bay Minette Public Library s Summer Reading Program. The Annual Christmas Paint party is held in early December and raises money for the HJWC Scholarship given to one female senior each spring at Baldwin County High School.

3 The Annual Chili Cook Off is held every February in conjunction with the Bay Minette Rotary Club s Chilly 5k and Fun Run. Proceeds from the event, the cook off and the run, are donated to the North Baldwin Coalition for Excellence in Education to help fund teacher grants in North Baldwin. Other organizations that have benefitted from the fundraising efforts of HJWC are Catfish Round Up, Distinguished Young Women, the North Baldwin Animal Shelter, Bay Minette Middle School GEMS, CARE House and the Bay Minette Elementary School Clothes Closet. Kiwanis Club The Bay Minette Kiwanis Club was chartered in Bay Minette in 1950 and has operated continuously ever since. They are the major sponsor and scholarship donor to the Baldwin County High School Key Club which is an active local service organization that gives our high school students experience in supporting local community events. The North Baldwin Chapter Kiwanis at one time had in excess of 35 members but has dwindled to about 10 active and loyal participants who work hard to maintain a strong and continued presence in Bay Minette. They work to support local projects and historically sponsor: Two Boston Butt sales annually Pancakes with Santa Christmas Tour of Homes in support of Bay Minette's annual Christmas Fest celebration. All monies raised during Kiwanis functions are used to fund college scholarships at Baldwin County High School. Until recently they conducted an annual Kids Day in October with a huge parade, barbeque lunch and numerous children s games including a hay ride around town. However Kids Day had to be cancelled as their small membership could no longer support this large undertaking.

4 They currently meet on the 3 rd Tuesday of each month for lunch at the North Baldwin Hospital Cafeteria Conference Room and they welcome anyone interested in joining and helping to rebuild their membership. Lion s Club Literary Club North Baldwin Community Concerts P.O. Box 141 All concerts are held at The L.D. Owen Performing Arts Center on the campus of Faulkner State Community College and normally begin at 7:00 pm. Quilting Club 613 McMeans Avenue (The group meets in the Bay Minette Recreation Center) Club Meets twice a week: Wednesdays from 8:00 am 2:00 pm Thursdays 8:00 am 12:00 pm The Bay Minette Quilting club originated in 2001 under the loving guidance of Kelly Johnson and her mother, Eunice Johnson. 5 Quilting Club (continued) started with a handful of residents such as Aurdra Davidson, Mae Long, Jessie Lou Durrant, Merytle Dock to name a few, it has played home to up to 15 members but now exists with only 4. This group of extraordinary ladies is more like a family than a club. They have been through much these past years and continue to lovingly work on eachother s project more as a labor of love than anything else. They gladly welcome anyone interested in joining the club, especially a novice. They teach the basic of stiches and work on the most complex of pieces. You don t have to know how to sew to join. Each member prepares their quilt top at home as other members help at their meetings to finish a project which may take 4-5 weeks. They take turns bringing in their own tops and new comers rotate in as each member takes a turn. They have even played host to out of towners who come from afar and quilt togther. Always looking for new friends, they encourage people to come by, pull up a chair and enjoy the artistry of quilting. There are no dues and there is no need to call, just come on over! Rotary Club P.O Box Chartered on April 21, 1949, The Bay Minette Rotary Club is an organization consisting of business professional and community leaders who volunteer time, talent and resources in order to meet vital community needs.

6 Rotary Club (continued) Events Fourth of July: The Rotary hosts an outstanding fireworks show behind the Bay Minette Elementary School. Chilly Run: Held the last Saturday in February, this event benefits the North Baldwin Coalition of Excellence. (NBCEE) *This event is held in conjunction with the Heritage Junior Women s Club. Turkey Fry: This event is held the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and benefits various charities. In addition, they also help to sponsor the Baldwin County High School Band. The Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at noon at the Rotary Village located at 2211 McMillan Ave.
