1 Term Perry Barr Farm Quailo Ave Hallett Cove PO Box 551 BRIGHTON SA 5048 From the Group Leader 2016 has been a tremendous year... LES FRY in regards to group membership. Our numbers this year finally topped the 100 mark. What a great achievement and one we should all be very proud of. We are still receiving enquiries for new membership and are always happy to invite them along to show off what we have to offer. I know that in every newsletter I go on about what a great job all of our leaders and committee members do but it is something I cannot say enough. This group would not be what it is today without all of their time and hard work. I thank them all for their tireless and sometimes thankless efforts. All of this does not go unnoticed by everyone who attends this amazing group. Please keep up the good work This year has had a lot of ups and downs for me but I have always tried to focus on the positive side of things and reflect on what are some very memorable moments. One of the highlights for me was the Scouts V Parents Day, what a fantastic event for everyone who could make it. I m sure we will be hearing stories about that for a long time to come. Well done to all who spent countless hours organising and giving up what little spare time they have to make sure things ran smoothly on the day. Another memorable moment for me was to see the nomination and presentation of a Service of Merit award to a member of our Committee. Congratulations to our Quartermaster Paul for all your hard work in keeping things maintained and running properly around the hall. It s nice to know that it does not go unnoticed and it is very much appreciated. In my opinion every leader and committee member from this group deserves an award but unfortunately all cannot receive awards on the day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our generous benefactor, who has been so helpful with his kind donations to our group. These donations have seen the installation of heating in the hall as well as helping out with donations for equipment and the Australian Jamboree. I would also like to thank the Hallett Cove Lions for their donations to the group, also for their help throughout the year in liaising with the council to get various improvements done around the Perry Barr farm area. Group Support Committee This year also saw the Committee go through a few changes in membership and each member faced new challenges of learning a new role as well as keeping things running smoothly in the process. To help keep the success of our group we need continued support. The Committee is not confined to these positions; there are plenty of smaller jobs within the group that need to be done. They can be from keeping the notice board up to date to hall cleaning, designing flyers or posters for special events, planning or assisting in fundraisers and in general coming along to Committee meetings to see what you can do to help out. The Committee meetings are for all who wish to attend not just for Leaders or Position holders. We need the support of all parents. Also if there is a position that you are interested in but is already filled, we could look at doing a job share and make it easier for all those involved. We can also look at individual tasks rather than taking on a whole role within the Committee. So if you feel there may be something you can contribute to the group as a whole or even to a particular section please ask one of the Leaders or myself. Also to the Leaders and Committee Members, if somebody offers to lend a hand please take them up on the offer.
2 From the Treasurer KARI CHANDLER Term 4 Fees are, in some cases, overdue, and it will assist the group greatly if outstanding accounts can be settled as quickly as possible. Preferred method of payment is by electronic deposit (no receipts issued) Term Fee Discounts apply for multiple children, children of leaders and committee members, as follows: First Term (or first attendance if starting after Term 1) No discounts (this covers headquarters insurance of all members) Subsequent Terms: $10 discount for each additional child per family $10 discount for the first child of a committee member 100% for the first child of a leader (ie free except for the first term as above) WAYS YOU CAN ASSIST: Please pay promptly Pay term fees before any camp or sleepover fees Pay by internet, use child surname as the reference, eg Adcroft T3 Fees Be clear about what payments are for For Electronic Payment of Term Fees: Hallett Cove Scout Group WE REQUIRE A RECEIPT COPY OF ANY ELECTRONIC PAYMENT TO BE SENT TO THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS: hcsgtermfees@gmail.com Term 4 Fees are $70 per child Plus $30 if joining, to cover scarf, woggle, badges & scout book Please Remember to ensure the utmost care of your child when they are in OUR care: Your child MUST be signed IN & OUT on the roll sheets when dropping off or collecting them - it s crucial that we know who is in attendance should we need to evacuate the building in emergency situations, as well as who we should be paying insurance & fees for to the Scout Association. PLEASE let us know of any change to contact details, or other information such as medical, guardians, or social media privacy permissions if they have changed since your child first joined the group If you have ANY concerns regarding your child s time at the Scout group, please advise their leader, or our Group Leader, Les Fry we want your child s time to be a positive, and nurturing experience.
3 Coming Events
4 Tjilbruke & Bilyara Cubs AKELA JULIE CHAPMAN Well, here we are, facing off against Christmas again; how this year has flown, and our Cubs have grown before our eyes Term 3 came and went in the blink of an eye, but we still managed to award the following: Jan completed his Grey Wolf Award with a great interview. We now eagerly await confirmation of his achievement. We worked on our First Aid Level, having fun with mock injuries, and achieved part 4 of the BC Challenge badge by playing 100 games something we did with ease as we play games every week and singing 100 campfire songs which we did both as part of our flight camp and a pretend campfire in the hall. Our end of term night was a bit of a double celebration. We invited Kevin and Lorraine from SA Dog Rescue along and presented them with a cheque for $109 which was raised in term 1 as part of our BC Challenge part 1 badge and our guess how many lollies are in the jar competition. We then finished off the night with some party food and birthday cake to celebrate Akela's birthday.
5 Now here we are in term 4, where we ll be finishing the year by completing the BC Challenge badges: Part 5 Fitness & Part 6 Celebrate Here are all 6 parts Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 They should make a fabulous addition to our Scout blankets when all put together! We have already awarded one Boomerang this term, well done to Adam for achieving his Bronze Boomerang With the weather is warming up and the nights are getting lighter, we ve concentrated on our fitness this term with lots of sporting events. We worked on our Fitness Boomerang section and our cycling and swimming level 1 achievement badges and we also had the District Huff 'n' Puff Cub Olympics event. We also invited Cubs to choose an achievement badge out of their yellow book to work on and present to their Six later in the term, so lots of badges were on offer We hosted our Venturers to help with our knots and lashings and built some rafts for our pirate night, and will round off the term with a Joint Cub Pack and Joey Mob night at the park where we will be ice blocking and having a sausage sizzle and birthday cake to celebrate the end of the 100 th year of Cub Scouts. We will also be taking this opportunity to present the 2016 Cubs of the Year. Who will win these prestigious awards? Tune in week 9, at the park, for the exciting conclusion to what has been another awesome year spent with some absolutely amazing young people. Akela, Jacala & Kaa
