MEDAL WINNING FUNDRAISERS FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK Take inspiration from all the sport this summer and go for gold with your fundraising. Let s beat cancer sooner
IT S ALL IN THE PREPARATION Don t fall at the first hurdle. Here are four simple steps to make sure your fundraising achieves a podium finish. Get ready Choose your fundraising activity. Take some inspiration from our ideas or come up with one of your own. Summer is a great time to get together with friends so make it mean even more by supporting Cancer Research UK. Get set Set the date. Find a time that works for everyone and get your invites out early. The more people you can get along the more money you will raise. Use the poster in this pack and create a Facebook event to help spread the word about what you re doing and why. Go! Have fun and enjoy yourself. Don t forget to remind everyone how much you are aiming to raise on the day and remember to celebrate your fundraising success when you cross the finish line. Beat cancer sooner The sooner we receive your funds, the sooner we can get them working to beat cancer. Pay in your fundraising online at CRUK.ORG/Return-Fundraising. Post a cheque with the money return form in this pack. Pay over the phone by calling Use JustGiving to send it straight to us.
MEDAL WINNING IDEAS Take some inspiration from our sport themed ideas and let the games begin. Sweepstake It couldn t be easier, simply ask people to make a donation to guess who will end up at the top of the table. Offer a prize to the person with the correct or nearest answer. The office games Bring the excitement, exhilaration and the intense feelings of success, failure and celebration to your office. Ask colleagues to make a donation to take part in events like synchronised office chair swivel, rubber band archery, table tennis or pencil javelin. You could always keep it old school with the egg and spoon, sack and the three legged race. We ve included medals at the back of the pack for you to use at your games. Have a themed party Whether you feast on food from your favourite nation or dress like them the possibilities are endless. Having a theme will make for some great memories and photos. Frisbee discus anyone? TOP TIP: Use the poster in this pack to advertise your event or to let people know about your target and why you re fundraising. Get your kit on Get your colleagues to make a small donation to come to work dressed as their favourite athlete, team or in their sports kit and charge a forfeit for those who don t. Sports quiz Challenge the mental agility and sporting knowledge of your family and friends with a quiz at your local pub, community centre or any suitable host venue. You can use the poster in this pack to promote your quiz and ask a local business for a winner s prize. If you re really good at blagging freebies why not hold a raffle or silent auction on the night to raise even more money. Movie Night TOP TIP: Start the fundraising early by asking people to donate via Justgiving. Then you can concentrate on hosting your event and hitting everyone up for a final donation on the day. Think Chariots of Fire, Cool Runnings, Bend it like Beckham or Run Fatboy Run. Watch other people strive for athletic perfection from the comfort of your sofa while raising money to beat cancer. Pick your five top sporting films and ask guests to bid for their favourites, then watch the winning film on the night. The money you raise will help us to accelerate our progress in the fight against cancer
RACING FOR A CURE Through our research, we ve helped double cancer survival in the last 40 years - but our ambition is to accelerate that progress and see three-quarters of patients surviving their cancer for at least 10 years by We will concentrate our research in four areas to give us the foundations we need to tackle cancer head on and make a real difference to people affected by cancer and their families. It s ambitious but we believe that together, we can do it. DIAGNOSE Diagnose more cancers earlier Diagnosing cancer earlier is one of the most powerful ways to improve cancer survival. The chances of successful treatment are much higher for almost all types of cancer if it s found early. TREAT Develop new cancer treatments Cancer is complex. As our understanding of the disease grows, we have an opportunity to discover and develop new treatments. OPTIMISE Make treatments more effective for each patient Researchers now have huge amounts of information about the genetic changes in different types of cancer. It s becoming clear that every patient s cancer is unique. PREVENT Reduce people s risk of developing cancer The number of people being diagnosed with cancer is rising, due to changing lifestyles and the fact that more people are living longer, reaching ages when cancer is more common. So we need to do more to prevent cancer developing in the first place. Your fundraising will help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured to beat cancer once and for all thank you. In this pack you should find everything you need for a successful medal winning fundraiser event but if you have any questions call to speak to a member of our team.
PLAN IT Check-lists Keep on top of your fundraising activities with handy to-do lists. You can even download our Fundraising Planner to plan your next fundraiser and keep sight of your goals Keep it safe Whether you re popping allergy information on your party food, or making sure everybody knows about where the fire exits are at your dinner party, conducting a risk assessment can be made simple with our downloadable guidance, here. TOP TIP Challenge your employer! Ask them to match your personal fundraising amount as an easy way of doubling your total amount! FUNDRAISING TOOLS Whatever you re doing to fundraise, make it easier and more fun with our helpful materials. PLANNING YOUR OWN EVENT? Visit CRUK.ORG/Planning-Fundraising PROMOTE IT Spread the word Social media and local press are great ways to shout about your fundraising. Spread the word and raise even more money to beat cancer sooner! Keeping it small? Ask your boss to send an internal to encourage workers to dig deep. PROMOTING YOUR OWN EVENT? Visit CRUK.ORG/Promoting-Fundraising RETURN IT Use the money return form in this pack as a quick and easy way to make sure your funds go towards beating cancer even sooner. Raise it easily Start the fundraising early by getting people to make donations through JustGiving. It s also great for those who can t be there on the day! PAY IN YOUR MONEY Visit CRUK.ORG/Return-Fundraising
