2 The Society of St. Vincent de Paul 624 East Hopkins Street San Marcos, Texas River Walk for the Poor October 1, 2016 Thanks very much for deciding to participate in the River Walk for the Poor, San Marcos. Attached are the schedule, a registration form, a release from liability form, pledge sheet and receipt forms for those who give cash donations. The activities start at 7:30 am with the Rosary followed by the celebration of Mass at 8 am. You are encouraged to attend however it is not mandatory. At 9 am we will start registration and serve a snack and drink. After the walk, there will be lunch and prizes. This is the only fund raiser that we have for the year so it is very important to us in our efforts to help the poor and needy of the San Marcos area. The needs are rather over whelming. Since the floods of 2015 the rents in San Marcos have gone up. We are now experiencing a rash of homelessness not just for individuals but mostly for families. It breaks our hearts to see families suffer especially those with small children. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international organization that has been supporting the poor and needy for over 180 years, and here in San Marcos for about 40 years. We routinely help those in need with their utility bills, prescriptions, rent (as funds are available), emergency housing and other essentials. We are hoping that we can have 100 walkers raise a $100 each. Two hundred would be fantastic. We will have a free T-shirt for those raising $100. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul here in San Marcos has volunteers from St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Our Lady of Wisdom University Parish. We have no paid staff. Our overhead is very low (less than one percent). We have a team on duty each day of the week plus an emergency team that responds 24/7. Our teams of highly trained volunteers are blessed by the people we serve and we know that you will truly be blessed by participating in this most important River Walk for the Poor. Three door prizes will be given out: $25 gift cards.

5 2016 Participant / Volunteer Accident Waiver and Release of Liability (To be signed by all event participants and volunteers) I recognize and acknowledge that there are inherent risks in my presence and participation in the St. Vincent de Paul, on October 1, I acknowledge that this Accident Waiver and Release of Liability form will be used by the event holders, sponsors and organizers, in which I may participate, and that it will govern my actions and responsibilities at said events. In consideration of my registration and participation in this event, I hereby take action for myself, my executors, administrators, heirs, next of kin, successors and assigns as follows: (A)Waive, Release and Discharge from any and all liability for my death, disability, personal injury, property damage, property theft or actions of any kind which may hereafter accrue to me or my traveling to and from this event, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, their directors, officers, employees, volunteers, representatives and agents, event holders, event sponsors, event directors and volunteers; (B) Indemnify and Hold Harmless the entities or persons mentioned in this paragraph from any and all liabilities or claims made by other individuals and entities as a result of any of my actions during this event. I am aware the Society of St. Vincent de Paul does not provide health and accident coverage for me and it is my responsibility to pay any medical bills from injuries sustained while participating River Walk for the Poor, San Marcos. I hereby consent to receive medical treatment which may be deemed advisable in the event of injury, accident and/or illness during this event. I understand that at this event or related activities, I may be photographed. I agree to allow my photo, video or film likeness to be used for any legitimate purpose by the event holders, producers, sponsors, organizations and assigns.
