The Noontime Rotary Club of Marco Island WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
Who we are: The Noontime Rotary Club of Marco Island is one of 33,000 Rotary Clubs with 1.2 million members in 165 countries around the world. Rotary is the world s oldest business and service organization. Paul Harris was our founder in Our club, The Rotary Club of Marco Island, was chartered in 1966, and our members are dedicated to service to our community and the world while having fun doing so. We are business, professional and civic leaders of our community who want to keep informed about our Marco Island community and feel the need to work with others to make our local area and the world a better place. What we do: We meet for lunch, fellowship and a weekly program. We get together at noon on Thursdays (some arrive as early as 11:30 a.m.) at DaVinci s Restaurant which is at the corner of Collier and Winterberry near Marco Movies. Much of what we do locally is in the area of education of young people through our scholarship fund, leadership training of high school students through our Interact Club at Lely High School, and sending students to a one week leadership seminar called Seminar for Tomorrow s Leaders. We recognize students monthly from our area elementary and middle schools and our local high schools through our Students of the Month program. We also help community organizations such as the YMCA and local schools. One of the exciting programs for this Rotary year is to explore the possibility of starting a RotaKids Club at Tommy Barfield and/or Marco Island Charter Middle School. Rotakids is a club for elementary and middle school students where they learn good citizenship and have fun doing so. Internationally, Rotary, along with the World Health Organization and more recently the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has been responsible for eliminating polio throughout the world And final success is so very close. Additionally, the Marco Island Rotary Club has helped communities in Jamaica and Guatemala to build schools, clean water systems, and in Mexico to provide eyeglasses to the needy. When the Haiti disaster occurred two years ago we helped through ShelterBox an organization that sends disaster relief packages including tents, food, water purification tablets, and other emergency items to the earthquake victims along with people to help distribute the boxes to the neediest. For the Rotary year (July 1-June 30) we are having three regular annual fundraisers. We will be participating in the Marco Island Seafood Festival along with the Sunrise Rotary Club and the Marco Island Kiwanis Club. We will also host our annual Spirit of Marco Island Awards Night event recognizing local humanitarians, and in conjunction with the awards ceremony we will be raising funds through a silent auction
of donated items and services. Tournament. We will also participate in the Rotary Eagle Golf We like to have fun and fellowship. We have a Holiday Boat Parade Party or other Holiday Party venue depending on the year, and other social events throughout the year in addition to an awards banquet late in June. How Noontime Rotarians of Marco Island benefit: There are many good reasons to join us. Networking Rotary members meet weekly and enlarge their circle of business and professional acquaintances. Our members represent a cross-section of owners, executives, managers, civic leaders and professionals people who make decisions and influence policy. We also have members who are retired from the above peer groups who add wisdom and depth to our club. Service Club members have many opportunities for humanitarian service, both locally and internationally. Service programs such as our scholarships, Joy of Giving and Disaster Shelter Boxes address concerns in our community and throughout the world. All members pitch in to help with the annual Marco Island Seafood Festival and our annual Spirit Awards Fund Raiser. Rotarians regularly experience the fulfillment that comes from giving back to the community. Friendship Rotary was founded on fellowship, a cornerstone that continues to attract members today. Rotarians enjoy the camaraderie of our monthly road clean-up project on Bald Eagle Drive and working together on other service projects as well as social events such as our Holiday Party. Rotarians who travel have friendly contacts all over the world through club visits. A Rotarian is always welcome at Rotary Club meetings anywhere in the world. Family Rotary sponsors some of the world s largest exchange and educational programs. Locally we get our families involved working together such as helping with our Marco Seafood Festival and Meals of Hope. Ethics Encouraging high ethical standards and respect for all worthy vocations has been a hallmark of Rotary from its earliest days. In their business and professional lives, Rotarians abide by The Four-Way Test: Of the things we think, say or do 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Leadership Rotary is an organization of successful professionals. Team building, fundraising, public speaking, planning, organization, and communication are just some of the leadership skills that club members can exercise and enhance. Being a Rotary leader provides further experience in motivating, inspiring, and guiding others. What our responsibilities as Noontime Rotarians of Marco Island are: All effective Rotary clubs are responsible for four key elements: 1. Sustaining or increasing their membership base, 2. Participating in service projects that benefit their own community and those in other countries. We ask 100% member participation in The Marco Island Seafood and Music Festival fundraiser and our annual Spirit Awards Fundraiser, 3. Supporting The Rotary International Foundation financially and through program participation, as well as our Club Foundation, 4. Practicing high ethical standards and serving others through our vocations. Attendance: Attending weekly club meetings allows us to enjoy our club s fellowship, enrich our professional and personal knowledge and meet other business and professional leaders in our community. When we miss a regular club meeting, we are encouraged to visit another Rotary Club, attend a directors meeting or some other Rotary Function to make-up the meeting missed. It is a club requirement that we attend or make-up at least 50% of our meetings. Most members do much better than that and some have perfect attendance for many years running. Service: Members are expected to ACTIVELY participate in club programs and service projects. Finding and keeping members: As with any organization, we must sustain ourselves. We are expected to help find new members and to encourage fellow members to be active in club activities.
How much does it cost to be a Noontime Marco Island Rotarian It presently costs a minimum of approximately $ per year to be a Noontime Marco Island Rotarian. But this does not include the cost of lunch which is presently $20.00 paid weekly as you enter. Most Rotarians in their giving through Rotary pay more. Initial Charges Upon induction you will be presented with a bill for your initial expenses: Initiation fee (one time fee) $ International Dues (Dues for year are paid in first quarter) District Dues (Dues for year are paid in first quarter Donation to The Rotary Foundation $25.00/Quarter Donation to Polio Plus ($35.00/yr) paid first qtr Meal Charge 13 $ Maximum Total at Induction $ Meal charge will be prorated depending when during quarter member is inducted Total minimum dues and expenses first year Initiation fee $ International Dues District Dues Donation to The Rotary Foundation ($25.00/qtr) Donation to Polio Plus ($35.00/yr) paid first qtr Total minimum cost per year plus meal cost $ The above is a minimum. Most Rotarians purchase 50/50 tickets at luncheon $2.00 per ticket or $5.00 for three and the hat is passed for a $1.00 per member donation each meeting. There are other opportunities to give to
projects from time to time such as our 300 club, donations to our club foundation, and tickets to Marco Island Spirit Awards Night as well as other activities Moving toward the future During the Rotary Year President Bruce Graev has three primary goals for our club. The first is to increase membership by 20%. The second goal is to explore establishing a RotaKids Club at Tommy Barfield and Marco Island Charter Middle School. The third goal is for each of our club members to donate through their dues to Polio Plus so that our club can have 100% participation in ridding Polio throughout the world forever.
