RAINHAM CRICKET CLUB Established 1856 Berengrove Park, Berengrave Lane, RAINHAM, Kent. Telephone No.: New Community Pavilion Prospectus Grass Roots Cricket in the Community OUR AIM - To produce a first class sports and social hub for the local community. Contacts: Neil McCue Project Co-ordinator Jon Newton - Project Co-ordinator

We want a modern, welcoming clubhouse that inspires the community to take a more active role in sporting and social events. A clubhouse that can be used as a hub for local charities, clubs and businesses CLUBHOUSE PROJECT Plans have been agreed to build a new community pavilion incorporating clubhouse and changing rooms. The building will provide improved changing facilities which are far more conducive to use by junior members (boys and girls). The clubhouse will be larger and more welcoming than the current facility enabling us to hold more social events and attract more use by the local community including charities, clubs and businesses. The building will also be wheelchair friendly which has been a major cause for concern as we have past players who are unable to visit the ground due to the lack of facilities. The building will be ecologically friendly, including rainwater harvesting to reduce our utility bills. The car parking has been increased to facilitate larger numbers attending the ground. NEED FOR THE PROJECT

Rainham Cricket Club was established since 1856 and has played cricket at Berengrave Park since The club is keen to develop as a vibrant, sustainable facility for the local community from both a sporting and social perspective. With the support of players and volunteers, the club has put in place an excellent structure for coaching younger age groups. However, in recent years the club has struggled to recruit and retain its playing membership at both senior and youth level and, as a result, there are less Colts teams than in previous years. RCC is committed to improving the club facilities so it can offer excellent opportunities for all age groups to become involved and progress in sport. It targeted a number of areas for specific focus:- Long term plans for a sustainable future Improvement in recruiting and retaining players, members and volunteers Addressing the lack of growth due to poor access to, and quality of, club facilities Improving the club's income streams The current temporary clubhouse building was erected in 1975 and is well past its 25 year lifespan. The changing rooms are, in effect, an old barn which has become very dilapidated. The club has spent a lot of time and money on maintaining the facilities to a reasonable standard, but the buildings will not last much longer. The club have conducted a survey amongst members and poor facilities have been highlighted as a major barrier to addressing the items listed above. In addition, some of the feedback stated that improved facilities would:- Be more appealing for wives, girlfriends and children to attend matches and social events Revitalise the colts section, encouraging younger boys and girls to start playing cricket To help maintain existing playing membership as well as attract new members, both playing and social. Encourage junior players to play senior cricket for RCC and help us keep talented players from joining other clubs with better facilities. Help create more revenue to help secure the club s future Therefore, we must focus on addressing the feedback above and the following areas:- No access to the club-house for wheelchair bound visitors No disabled W.C. Current toilet facilities not 'family friendly' Changing rooms in disrepair and unsuitable, especially for younger club members Clubhouse too old, small and outdated for holding quality events for members and guests COMMUNITY AIM

OUR AIM - To produce a first class sports and social hub for the local community. LOOKING FORWARD Rainham Cricket Club is situated in the heart of its community. Currently we have volunteers from the local area who help with ground maintenance, coaching, umpiring and scoring. An emphasis on family and friends from club and community is the way forward to a sustainable, vibrant future. This vision has been endorsed by our local MP (see letter & news article) who is keen to help us develop a community hub for local residents. OTHER COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS INCLUDE:- Hempstead Valley Colts Football Club utilise the outfield for younger age groups for Saturday training and Sunday league matches. MacMillan Nurses- For whom the club allow free use of our clubhouse on a regular basis. Local Schools- We currently allow two local schools the use of our pitches and clubhouse. This gives school children a safe sporting surface to play on and develop their skills. This comes at a time when schools in the area are finding it difficult to allocate enough resources into their own playing surfaces. (See Howard School letter) Local darts club use clubhouse as home venue for league matches. Arts and Crafts groups Beekeeping group use clubhouse Our club structure has members of the local community sitting on our committees to help with fundraising events. This has proved a reasonable revenue stream in spite of the limited nature of our current facility. Events include:- Annual Beer Festival Fireworks night (Club members only) Quiz nights Race nights Music nights

Rainham Cricket Club has a strong structure to organise events in the community as proven above. However, the committee believes there are key reasons why the potential of the club's community role is not being maximised. CURRENT DISADVANTAGES FOR COMMUNITY USE Outdated and decrepit facilities, including toilets Not a welcoming building No disabled access. Currently two disabled former playing members cannot access clubhouse. Cold in Autumn/Winter KEY COMMUNITY ADVANTAGES OF NEW CLUBHOUSE New community hub for local residents will inspire them to take a more active role in the club community. A facility that the community can access comfortably 365 days a year, greatly improving the supply of community space in an area which lacks such facilities. Clubhouse that welcomes disabled members and guests, allowing them dignity and basic rights of access. A facility that is welcoming and inspiring to families both as a sporting and social space. A facility that allows more use by local groups and charities. A facility that will attract more schools to play cricket and encourage greater participation on and off the field. An emphasis on primary schools and girls cricket is included in our sporting plan Costs and plan moving forward

11/01/16 - We applied to Inspired facilities on the following basis:- Expenditure 280,077 Income to date Total projected cost including VAT 75,000 Application to Inspired Facilities 40,000 ECB Grant 50,000 ECB Loan 8,000 Banked Clubhouse fund 17,600 5 Corporate sponsorship and donations 12, Donations from club members 2,150 4 club member fund raising events 205,050 Total Income required In kind funding (estimated saving based on work carried out by club members, 36,000 material gifted etc) 22,400 Corporate sponsorship and donations from club members via donations, sponsored events, fund raising events 16,627 etc. 75,027 Total 280,077 Grand Total ECB funding is reliant on funds available at the time, but we have had positive discussions with them. I have purposely left out the usual fund raising events that I believe should raise a further 10,000 as this can be used for the maintenance fund or help if we are falling short. Generous donations from 13 club members as reduced the total required to 16,672 which is less than 300 per senior member (based on the remaining 60 members who have yet to contribute) or less than 110 per club member (assuming 160 including colts). Does this seem within our capabilities to raise the funds? The worry is that Sport England will be looking at our application and wondering whether we can really make 36,000 of savings on the construction and material costing and raise the remaining 39,027 through fund raising efforts and new corporate sponsorship and donations. Ideally, it would be great to get more concrete evidence of the in kind savings and pledges from businesses and members in the following way:- 1) Letter from members with a trade confirming what support they can give and the potential saving that could be made. 2) Letters from businesses pledging support and the amount they will pay for sponsorship. 5,000 will mean they would benefit from full sponsorship package. 3) Letters from individual members prepared to pledge a donation towards clubhouse. So far we have received 13 pledges totalling 12,300 each. Is it viable that the remaining club membership raise the required shortfall? 4) Pledges from club members or via sponsored events to find a way of raising a target of 500 by next September and how they are planning to do it. 5) Ideas from membership for continuous income streams to pay back the ECB loan over a 10 year period and therefore will not impact the annual expenditure required for ground and other maintenance.

What can we offer as sponsorship? I think we need to agree what we can offer. I feel that 5,000 minimum would provide usual sponsorship benefits for at least 5 years (1 year per 1,000) plus maximum press exposure as the build develops. I am proposing 4 advertorials thanking main sponsors, from the date the funds are agreed, covering the start of the build and finish date. In addition, there would be banners/signage at club for main sponsors. If we can get a business to provide a larger amount, the clubhouse could be named after them. What should be estimated price for this be? 20,000, 25,000 or more? I have assumed usual sponsorship includes logo and a link on the homepage of our website, an advert in fixture card, an advert on a beer barrel at Beer festival. Looking to improve website and set up adverts on web pages for main sponsors? There will be businesses that would prefer an annual sponsorship arrangement. This will also be of benefit bearing in mind we will have a loan to repay. Also, if we are short of funds we may be able to borrow more on the back of proposed sponsorship. Rehman Chishti, our local MP is very keen to help us succeed. He has agreed to write to some of the larger businesses where he has good relations and provide a support letter for us to use. He will also help us look at how he can help us maximise press exposure for us and our sponsors via Metro (free for commuters), Kent and Medway messenger. In summary, I believe that we can raise this money and I am writing to Sport England with evidence of the pledges made to demonstrate that we are making real progress. Neil 11 th February 2016
