Resource and How- to Guide
Each year New Zealand celebrates National Volunteer Week (NVW) to recognise and celebrate New Zealand s approximately 1.2 million volunteers. NVW is coordinated by Volunteering New Zealand, who promote, support and advocate for volunteering in Aotearoa New Zealand. WHAT'S THIS about?
How To Participate Express your interest in being a part of National Volunteer Week Host an event to celebrate volunteers & submit your event details for us to promote. Share your photos, use the hashtags, and use our campaign materials in your promotions
KEY MESSAGES For your volunteers: Your contributions make a difference We want to celebrate what you are doing We want you to share your stories of volunteering We hope to mobilise those around you to join in Your efforts build community and foster connections Help us make this place a better space to live in Celebrate volunteering - volunteering is good for your health TO USE For your wider team and organisation: Let s celebrate the efforts of our volunteers Let s acknowledge the work that is enabled by volunteers Let s look for ways to enhance further volunteer effort
Longer Promotional Text 234 Words: National Volunteer Week (NVW) 2017 will be held from 18 to 24 June. Volunteering is good for you, your community and for the social development of the country. It helps build the social fabric that keeps us connected and engaged in our world. We all have skills that can help others. This year's theme is "Live, laugh, share -- Volunteer" or "Kia ringa hora: Me mahi tūao." This positive message is about celebrating what volunteers bring to their communities. It is important to recognise volunteering and the place it has in keeping our communities strong and healthy. The benefits of being a volunteer are well-documented. There's better health and the feel-good endorphins that volunteering releases; around how volunteering can help with job prospects; and other health benefits such as extending longevity and reducing depression in many people. As poet and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson observed, It is one of the beautiful compensations of life that no man can sincerely help another without helping himself. National Volunteer Week is a great opportunity to start volunteering or, if you already volunteer, it's a great time to invite a friend to join you. The positive message for the Week celebrates the joy that volunteers bring to their communities. It also reminds us that volunteers reap the reward of a happier, more engaged life because they feel connected to their communities. For more information, visit:

2017 Toolkit The Toolkit at consists of promotional text, visuals, and a social media guide that you can download. Visuals: NVW Posters // NVW Twitter and Facebook Banners // Photoframe generator // Certificate of appreciation Thanks to IHC for their branding work around 2017 National Volunteer Week.
How to download images To download the social media visuals from the Toolkit area of the website, click on the pink button to get to the new screen, and then : On a PC (at left) : Right click on the image and click "Save image as" so that you can save the image to your desktop or folders. From your profile, go to the top left of your cover photo and you'll see "Update Cover Photo". Click on "Update Cover photo" and navigate to find the banner you saved. On a Mac (screenshot below) : you'll see a Save icon, far right, to download.
How to use the photoframe Use our photoframe as another way to recognise a volunteer. Upload a photo and print it out, or include it in online recognition on your website or in social media. First you'll need a photo that is approx 595 pixels wide x 800 tall. Save this image to your desktop. Once you have a photo, upload it from your desktop to the photoframe page using the "choose file" option. If it is the correct orientation and looks good, next click the Download button. A window will pop open and allow you to save this image on your computer, for your own use. If you need to reload the image, use the "Update" option.
How to use the certificate Here's a tool to recognise your volunteers directly through our downloadable Certificate of Recognition. Right click on the image and click "Save image as" so that you can save the image to your desktop or folders. Once it's downloaded, either click into the PDF to fill out the volunteer s and organisation s name, and then print onto cardstock, or print out the certificate onto card, and fill out the volunteer s and organisation s name by hand
