When: Saturday, October 20, p.m. to 1 a.m. Where: Estancia at Thunder Valley, Boerne Why: For nearly 100 years, the American Cancer Society has been working to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. The movement for more birthdays is about everyday people, just like you, coming together to make a difference. This year more than 11 million cancer survivors will celebrate another birthday, thanks in part to the progress we've already made. But we can't stop there. With every person who joins the movement, we get closer to the day when cancer never steals another year from someone s life. 8 PROGRAMS & SERVICES Road to Recovery/Transportation Program Provides transportation for cancer patients to and from treatment Reach to Recovery Volunteers who have been treated for breast cancer visit patients before and after surgery and offer understanding, support, and hope because they themselves have survived breast cancer Breast Prosthesis Program Provides mastectomy bras and weighted prosthesis to women in need Personal Health Manager Resource toolkit designed to help patients keep their prescriptions, medical bills, insurance information, test results, appointments organized and also includes resources and information related to diagnosis, treatment, nutrition, and American Cancer Society programs and resources Look Good Feel Better Provides information to women undergoing cancer treatment to help them look and feel more comfortable with changes in their appearance Guestroom Provides hotel room for out-of-town cancer patients while receiving treatment Gift Items Free wigs, scarves and head coverings, post-surgery mastectomy bras, comfort pillows Quitline Tobacco Cessation Program A telephone counseling program that provides free, confidential help 24 hours a day from a Quitline counselor at YES-QUIT National Cancer Information Center Current information, resources and guidance available from trained Cancer Information Specialists and oncology nurses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at ACS-2345 If you know A child who has been cured of leukemia A woman who had a lumpectomy or was treated with tamoxifen for breast cancer A man whose prostate cancer was diagnosed with a PSA test A woman who has a regular Pap test Anyone who quit smoking Then you know someone who has benefited from research supported by the American Cancer Society
