2 Welcome to Holly Hill Hospital Welcome to the Holly Hill Hospital Adult Campus located in Raleigh, North Carolina. For over 35 years, our behavioral health and substance abuse programs have equipped patients with the skills needed to find their path toward wellness and recovery. Assessments & Admissions (800) As a behavioral health emergency department, we are open 24-7, 365 days a year for no cost mental health assessments. During the admissions process you will complete registration paperwork, discuss your medical history with a nurse and be evaluated by a clinician. Partial Hospitalization Program patients may schedule an assessment directly with the PHP staff, Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm, by calling (919)

3 Adult Inpatient Programs Should you require a short-term stay at our facility, you will be assigned to a specific program to allow for a more individualized and comfortable treatment experience. Our programs can help with concerns such as: Depression Suicidal Thoughts Extreme Mood Swings Hallucinations Alcohol/Drug Abuse Bipolar Disorders Physical/Sexual Abuse Phobias PTSD Schizophrenia Types of Inpatient Programs Mental Health Patients are assigned to a specific Mental Health Program based on the needs of their specific diagnosis. Geriatric Med-Psych Our Geriatric Med-Psych Program addresses the unique needs of older adults and those adults coping with medical issues co-occurring with their mental health diagnosis. Alcohol/Drug Dependency (Dual Diagnosis) Our Dual Diagnosis Program addresses the needs of patients coping with both substance abuse and mental illness.

4 What to Expect in Treatment Your Treatment Team will assess and provide you with medication management, individual exercises and therapeutic programming that includes group and recreational therapy. Your Treatment Team serves as a guide during your stay at Holly Hill and consists of: Psychiatrist Your doctor leads your Treatment Team, monitors your progress and is responsible for all treatment orders, such as medication. Program Therapists Your program therapist oversees your group therapy and programming and assists both you and your Treatment Team in the creation of a safe discharge plan. Nurses Your nurse supervises your day-to-day care on the unit and is responsible for educating you on medications and health issues. Recreation Therapists The recreation therapist provides you with various activities focused on creative expression and the development and application of appropriate social skills. Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) MHTs work with the nurse in supervising your day-to-day activities and perform 15-minute checks to ensure your safety. Your MHT facilitates various groups and works closely with you in managing your daily functioning. You & Your Family You are the center of your treatment. It is up to you to use your coping skills to improve the way you address various life situations. Your treatment program is based on the Pathway to Recovery, a set of life skills and values that help us treat others and ourselves in a healthy manner.

5 Life Values for How We Treat Others and How We Want to be Treated All patients are expected to follow the Pathway to Recovery. These guidelines will prove helpful after your stay as well. 1. Be Safe. The most important behavioral choices are ones that will not result in you or anyone/anything else being hurt. 2. Show Respect for Others and Yourself. Be considerate and courteous to others. 3. Follow the Program Guidelines. Attend group therapy and take pride in yourself and surroundings. 4. Work on Your Treatment. Be an active participant in making a plan for your life and the lives of those around you. 5. Use Positive Coping Skills. Use safe and acceptable thoughts, activities or behaviors during times of stress.

6 Treatment Trails Treatment Trails: FOUNDATIONS, PATHWAYS, DESTINATIONS For each of our programs, the wellness journey begins in FOUNDATIONS. FOUNDATIONS Individuals in this phase are expected to follow basic expectations for care and are encouraged to identify their life goals. PATHWAYS Individuals in this phase demonstrate an initial insight into their illness. They will begin to understand how to utilize their strengths to overcome their illness. DESTINATIONS Individuals in this phase demonstrate the ability and commitment to consistently utilize their coping skills and strengths.

7 Treatment Trails Treatment Trail Goals Regardless of your Treatment Trail, our goals for each patient are the same: Treat and reverse the symptoms leading to admission. Gain a better understanding of what events, circumstances and decisions led to this admission. Identify and re-affirm strengths. Plan for future success. FOUNDATIONS Who Am I? Why Am I Here? FOUNDATIONS is a phase of self-discovery when you reflect on your own personal story. You will tell your story and be challenged to recognize the reasons behind who you are and the results of your choices. You will develop goals related to yourself, your family, your peers, and your community. With our help, you can lay out a map for a path to wellness and happiness.

8 PATHWAYS What Can I Learn? Treatment Trails PATHWAYS is a phase of identifying what you can learn to change the direction of your path toward wellness. This phase requires openness to recognize challenges and the need for a change so that you can meet your personal goals. In PATHWAYS you will practice the tools necessary to develop lifelong coping skills. These skills will help you to: Manage difficult feelings in a healthy manner. Problem-solve independently. Understand healthy relationship boundaries. Develop healthy relationships with others over time. You will have the opportunity to use these coping skills and will receive feedback on your progress.

9 Treatment Trails DESTINATIONS Where Do I Go From Here? DESTINATIONS is putting into action everything you have learned to determine if you are ready to face the challenges of staying on your path when you don t have the daily input and feedback of a 24-hour treatment program. You will be given the opportunity to independently problem solve and use your coping skills. More will expected of you. You will be challenged to demonstrate stability on a consistent basis. During DESTINATIONS you will develop longer term, personal goals and a plan for ensuring that you meet these goals. Your journey will continue long after discharge. The skills you have developed at Holly Hill will help you stay on a path of wellness and happiness. We know you will be a success!

10 A Plan for Success. During your stay at Holly Hill, your Treatment Team will work with you to develop an aftercare plan to help you stay on a path of wellness and recovery. Attending scheduled appointments and participating in other aspects of your aftercare plan is critical to your continued success. The Next Steps... Next Steps in your aftercare plan might include: Holly Hill Hospital Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) Marriage and family therapy. Support groups. 12-step programs like Al-Anon or Nar-Anon. By actively participating with your Treatment Team, you are ensuring that your aftercare plan will be a success. Please note that all inpatient discharges take place by 11:00a.m.

11 Partial Hospitalization An Outpatient Program for Adults. Located across from the Adult Hospital Campus, the Holly Hill Partial Hospitalization Program is a voluntary, outpatient program for adults 18 years of age and older that may be experiencing: Depression, Panic & Anxiety Bipolar & Personality Disorders Grief & Loss PTSD & Trauma Secondary Substance Abuse Issues PHP may be advised as a stand-alone treatment or as a step-down treatment after an inpatient stay. Patients participate in PHP Monday through Friday for an average of two to three weeks. In PHP, patients have access to a psychiatrist, registered nurse and therapist.
