2 Helping Children And Youth Reach New Heights Through Education Th e four main pillars of support for each youth include: Te 60th anniversary of the Boys and Girls Club of London is an opportunity to reflect on the many lives changed by the Club s programs, services and support since While we look back on past successes over the last 60 years, the Diamond Anniversary Gala will be a unique opportunity to raise much needed funding, enabling the sustainment and expansion of our education programming for 60 additional children and youth in need of academic and financial support. Te recollections of alumni and grateful words from current members will underline the life changing programs and services of the Boys and Girls Club of London. We look forward to welcoming, as our Gala speaker, a London Business Achievement Award winner, Karl Pfister, founder and CEO of Armatec Survivability Corporation. Trough his innovative vision and hard work he has demonstrated individuals can achieve personal success and enhance the lives of many. Karl exemplifies the idea of one person making a difference and he will share, in an insightful and entertaining manner, his personal story. In keeping with our theme of innovation, the venue for the event will be in the Diamond Aircraft facility at London Airport. In a warmly decorated extraordinary setting, with audio visual enhancements and the stage props one might expect at such a venue. Te limited audience of 350 guests from the public and private sector will experience an unforgettable evening. Te delicious meal, beverages, silent auction and heartwarming life stories are a sparkling way to celebrate a Diamond Anniversary. 3 Te Club had a very modest beginning through the local Memorial Legions support of providing male youths in our community with positive role models, opportunities for skill building and a safe place to be. Today, almost 60 years later, the Club still provides those same opportunities for all children and youth. Our programs are designed to offer fun with a purpose, through the focuses of improving physical health, mental health and emotional well-being. Program areas include fitness and aquatics, nutrition, social programs, as well as education, leadership and social enterprise. Te Club strives to remove all barriers to access for programming through the offering of free transportation and membership subsidies. Te Boys and Girls Club of London formally established education and leadership programs in 2009 through the implementation of the M.A.P. program. My Action Plan to Education is a program aimed at helping youth to continue on the road to success in school. A student s M.A.P. Program is developed to meet the needs of that individual youth, and involves the commitment of the youth, his or her parents / caregivers as well as other partners who help provide the youth with the best possible opportunities for success. Since the introduction of the educational programs, approximately 150 students each year have engaged in empowering themselves and their future academic pursuits. In addition to five Leadership programs, which help youth develop practical skills with a focus on personal development, financial literacy, community involvement and career planning. Trough Successful Program Outcomes Since Secondary school graduates - 24 Post-secondary school graduates - M.A.P. students have achieved grades 20-30% higher than their peers locally volunteer and job opportunities within the Club, youth experience hands on training with real life situations. Tese programs aim to help remove any obstacles that would hinder academic and social goals. Te youth participants provide the effort and determination to experience long term successful outcomes. Trough the MAP program, youth feel supported and have increased confidence in their academic abilities and overall futures. Currently, our educational programs are at capacity. At the end of the previous school year, we had 36 students on the waiting list to be accepted into the MAP programs. As we do not turn students away from help, we have relied on the help of volunteers to assist our educational staff in providing tutoring and homework help for these additional students. We have also exhausted many of the five year funding agreements that provided the resources for the MAP programs. As we move towards celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Boys and Girls Club of London, we will have a dedicated focus on fundraising to sustain current programming levels and allow for the expansion of the MAP program to be able to support additional children and youth.
