2 WELCOME TEAM CAPTAIN! The mission of the Acadiana Affiliate Susan G. Komen is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering others, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find cures. Race for the Cure helps fund our mission! The day will include a 5k Fun Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk, tailgating, vendor expo, concert, survivor celebration, children s activities, and so much more! Celebrate with us and help save lives of those battling breast cancer. Thank you for your commitment to lead a team in the 2018 Race for the Cure. The TEAM CAPTAIN acts as the contact person, promotes participation, sets their fundraising goals, and assists their team members with their registration. Being a TEAM CAPTAIN is a great way to bring together a group of people to make a difference in our community. Think of the fun you can have as you plan, recruit team members, design team t-shirts, fundraise and celebrate at Race. Returning TEAM CAPTAINS we THANK YOU! RECRUIT friends and family to join your team by calling, writing, ing and sharing on social media platforms. RALLY AND ENCOURAGE your team to set individual fundraising goals. Gather your team for motivational pep-rallies and discuss fundraising ideas. FUNDRAISE with your team with planned events to engage the community and spread awareness. (Check out fundraising tips & ideas on the next page.) CHECK YOUR S and read the monthly Race s and inform your team members of new information. Your willingness to participate in Race for the Cure is incredible and we d like to give you a heroic high five! You re a walking inspiration and we ve got some ideas to help you plan and make your campaign a booming success. FUN-RAISING? Thank You TIP 1 RALLY Tell your donors you are 100% committed to Race for the Cure and running breast cancer out of town. TIP 2 GIVE Inspire and encourage others to give by donating to your efforts first! Make a KICK-OFF donation. TIP 3 GET PERSONAL Craft YOUR story about why you Race. Your participant center provides templates to get started. The more personal you make it the more people can relate with their own experiences. You ll use your story throughout fundraising and recruiting. * TIP 4 ASK If you don t ask, you shall not receive. Cast a wide net donations don t always come from where you expect. * TIP 5 GRATITUDE Say THANK YOU early and often. Update your donors regularly on any progress and the impact you are making together. * TIP 6 SOCIALIZE Maximize your efforts by using social media to spread your message. You ll recieve a surprising amount of support from Facebook postings, Tweets, Instagram photos and Pinterest boards! TIP 7 FOLLOW UP Most are willing to donate, but just need a reminder with a second, personal or call. TIP 8 TEAM SHIRTS Design a team t-shirt with donors listed to show your appreciation.
