Fundraising Guide
Everything you need to get started Without you we couldn t have... Thank you! Your commitment as a fundraiser is hugely appreciated. Supporting and organising fundraising activities creates much-needed funds allowing us to continue supporting civil servants when they need it most. Who will you be helping? You re helping us support all civil servants, past and present, throughout their lives, with whatever problems they may have. How does your money help? We offer information and advice on a variety of issues including debt, caring, disability, emergencies, mental health, relationship breakdown and bereavement. Direct financial assistance is also available where necessary. Visit our website for more information on our services and how to access them: Paid a gas bill for a woman with severe arthritis who required regulated heat to keep her condition from worsening. Helped a mother who d been made redundant to buy new beds for her sons, aged five and six, who were still sleeping in cots. Provided an advance deposit to help someone fleeing from domestic abuse find a safe place to live. Helped the family of a child with autism access all the specialist help and equipment they required. The Charity s Fundraising Team is here to support you! It s easy to get in touch with us, by phone, , post or fax Tel: / fun@foryoubyyou.org.uk By post: The Fundraising Team, The Charity for Civil Servants, 5 Anne Boleyn s Walk, Cheam, Sutton, SM3 8DY Fax: It feels amazing to be able to go for a walk with my children without them pushing me in a wheelchair. Marie needed a new leg brace as her MS worsened, but was unable to afford the one that would be most effective. Thanks to fundraisers like you, we were able to help. I feel free again. Thank you. Marie, MoD Find out how you can keep making a difference
Our Events Are you looking for an adrenalin-packed adventure like an abseil or skydive, the challenge of walking 10,000 steps a day or putting on a Quiz for your colleagues? Our Fundraising Team will support you every step of the way for any event you sign up for. To register or get more details on our events contact our Fundraising Team: Tel: / fun@foryoubyyou.org.uk The Walking Challenge This annual event challenges participants to walk 10,000 steps a day for 50 days in the lead up to summer. Join as a team or individual and enter your daily step-count online to see how you measure up to those in your department and throughout other departments across the whole of the UK. The Walking Challenge fits within the Civil Service Health and Wellbeing agenda. It s also a fantastic chance for you to improve your own health and fitness whilst generating income for your Charity from the 10 registration fee and online fundraising sponsorship pages. It s a lot more fun than going to the gym! Visit our website for details: Abseil at the Royal Courts of Justice Team Fifty Shades of Ale Walking Challenge 2015 Abseil If you re looking to do something a bit different this is the challenge for you. You don t need any experience as trained instructors will be there to ensure you re fully prepared for the descent. Your Big Quiz Are you the office s Anne Robinson or Stephen Fry? We ve created a fantastic ready-to-go quiz and are seeking out Quiz Masters to carry it out in their offices or down the pub after work. British 10K The British 10K course passes through a historic and beautiful area of London, starting at Hyde Park Corner, and finishing - appropriately enough - on Whitehall! As part of our team you ll be given a running vest for the day and a certificate of achievement when you finish! Skydive Bring out the daredevil in you with a tandem skydive. There are multiple dates and venues all over the country for you to choose from.
Get Yellow! Get Yellow is a community fundraising extravaganza which combines having fun with raising awareness. Held annually in October, it generates much needed income so we can continue offering a wide variety of services to help civil servants with any problems they may have. Have fun and build team spirit while supporting your very own occupational Charity. Get Yellow by organising an event in your workplace, such as a Dress Down Day, bake sale or Soft Toy Raffle. You can also sell tickets for the Autumn Prize Draw. Spring & Autumn Prize Draws We have two exciting opportunities for you to win up to 2,000 in June and November! Take part by buying tickets for yourself or sell tickets to colleagues and friends. Each book contains ten 1 tickets. For more information call the Fundraising Team on / fun@foryoubyyou.org.uk or visit our website: 1st Prize: 2,000 2nd Prize: 1,000 3rd Prize: Prizes of 100 each Sponsored by: Sheila, 2015 Autumn Prize Draw winner Licensed with the Gambling Commission and solely benefits The Civil Service Benevolent Fund (known as The Charity for Civil Servants). Players must be 16 or over and resident of Great Britain. Unfortunately, this excludes the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, BFPO addresses and Northern Ireland.
How to get started! You want to plan an event in the office for the Charity but you re not sure where to start? We ve broken it down into these five easy steps. Stick the kettle on and let us show you how simple it can be Choose something fun to do! Show off your culinary skills with a bake sale, put on a Bring & Buy or do something totally new. Who s going to be involved? Will it be the whole office? Just your team? Will it involve friends and family too? Tell everyone! Possibly the most important stage. Post something on the office Intranet. everyone you know - they may want to support you even if they can t be there on the day. Shout from the rooftops using Facebook and Twitter. Mid-week around lunchtime is usually the best time to hold an event. Check the calendar for potential clashes and get agreement in your workplace. Start with the five Ws! Choose a place a lot of people will be passing through. We re here to support you and your colleagues. No one knows what s around the corner. Remind yourself and others of this throughout. TIP Decorations can go a long way to getting people interested in what you re doing. Put up balloons, banners and posters. Set up a fundraising page and share the link far and wide. Get collection tins from the Fundraising Team. Print off sponsorship forms. Start early and ask often! Start fundraising TIP Start early. The sooner you begin to plan and put things in motion, the more involved people will be and the more donations you ll receive. Let us know Tell us how it went! We love seeing pictures of an event and hearing how it went. We ll also send you a Thank You certificate you can display in your workplace. TIP Approach generous donors first. Most people will choose how much to give based on what others have given. Make a list & check it r Order materials and literature from us r Recruit volunteers r Send out a reminder or post a reminder on the Intranet r Put up posters r Set up a float for change r Have a camera or smart phone ready to take lots of photos
Fundraise any time of the year! We have lots of great event ideas you can organise any time of year. Our Fundraising Team is here to help you get started with any of these or your own ideas. Soft Toy Raffle We ll send you a gorgeous soft toy, along with everything you need to setup a simple raffle event in your office. Corporate Book Event Buy top quality books at a fraction of high street prices! This hugely successful initiative is run in collaboration with The Book People. Each event generates 10% commission for the Charity and is suitable for large offices with 400+ staff. Bring & Buy A great way to clear out unwanted stuff and find something you ve been after for a while - all for a good cause. Recycle Don t throw it away - recycle! We can recycle jewellery, currencies (coins and notes), stamps, mobile phones, cameras & gadgets. Recycling generates valuable income for us, and also helps protect the environment. Contact the Fundraising Team to find out how you can turn your trash into our treasure. Office Bake Sales Fill tummies with sweet or savoury treats and raise money! Pool your foodie specialities as a fundraiser.
Let everyone know! Ways to Pay Once you ve chosen what you want to do, publicise your event with posters, office newsletters or an e-bulletin! You can also share links and photos through our Facebook page or get tweeting to us on Twitter. Whether you re putting on your own event or joining one of ours, the Fundraising Team is happy to provide you with support materials like posters or our How To Take a Great Photo guide: fun@foryoubyyou.org.uk or call / Gail, Child Maintenance Group Sponsored Silence, Get Yellow, 2015 Remember to keep money secure. Cash should be counted by two individuals in a secure environment. Using a banking slip Pay monies direct into your local Lloyds Bank using a banking slip. Request a banking slip by fun@foryoubyyou.org.uk Over the phone Call our Fundraising Team to pay in using a debit/credit card: /2448 By post Make out a cheque payable to The Charity for Civil Servants and post to Fundraising, The Charity for Civil Servants, 5 Anne Boleyn s Walk, Cheam, Surrey SM3 8DY Online Use the donating page on our website to pay in online: Please indicate who you are and how you raised the donation so that we can say thank you! A CSSC-organised Three Peaks Challenge to support the Charity If you can get your sponsors (who are UK tax payers) to give their full name, address (including postcode) and tick the Gift Aid box confirming their tax payer status, we will receive an additional 25p per 1 under the Gift Aid scheme. This can make a big difference so it s worth pursuing where possible.
Keep it safe, fun & legal Health & Safety When organising an event take adequate steps to avoid risk to others. Carry out a simple assessment to identify, minimise and control risk. Insurance Events involving the public need to be covered by Public Liability Insurance. Check the buildings or equipment you hire are covered by insurance. Raffles & Lotteries There are strict legal requirements for Raffles, Lotteries & Prize Draws. Check with us before organising any of these. Data Protection Make sure records that you keep about people involved in a fundraising event comply with the Data Protection Act (guidance notes upon request). I would describe the team as cheerful, cheerful and mostly cheerful. My own experience has been very positive. I have more energy and I m sleeping better. Simon Hookey of Hookey s Hoofers, Child Support Agency The Walking Challenge 2015 Food Hygiene Take great care when handling food! Work to basic rules for safe preparation, storage, display and cooking. Alcohol & Public Entertainment Licence You may need a licence if your event involves the sale of alcohol, music, dancing, play or film showing. We re delighted to be helping a brilliant charity which supports so many of our colleagues across the country. Dom White & his team, MoD 2015 Fundraisers
