With the exception of two years working in mental health, my practice and research has been in the field of family and children s services. RESEARCH ACTIVITY Areas of Research Interest Social work practice in the area of family and children's services has been the focus of my research activity beginning with work related to family violence, moving into the area of older child adoptions, and mother blaming by protective services workers. My dissertation examined how social norms define deviance in relation to failing to recognize protectiveness of mothers of incest victims particularly when there is evidence of protective action. Post dissertation research includes a four year study of child protective services workers reasons for leaving agency employment; I am currently working on a paper using the data from this study. Since 1999, I have turned my attention to psychosocial aspects of cancer, particularly the interaction of women with the health care system and underserved populations.
