2 VERA HOUSE, INC. OUR NEW HOME Let us be the first to introduce you to our new offices! On June 5, 2017, Vera House opened the doors to our new offices located at 723 James Street in Syracuse. With the help of King + King Architects and Parsons-McKenna Construction Co., we now have a beautiful space to offer hope and healing to all who seek our services. We re proud of the reputation that we ve earned for providing comprehensive and compassionate care to those suffering from domestic and sexual violence and elder abuse. 4 WHITE RIBBON CAMPAIGN March 1-31, 2018 The Vera House Foundation 24 th Annual White Ribbon Campaign will be held March 1-31, The Campaign is designed to raise awareness about domestic & sexual violence and raise funds for our education and prevention programs and services. Each year the White Ribbon Campaign involves more than 40,000 individuals in the greater Syracuse community. The White Ribbon Campaign is led by concerned men who invite and encourage all members of the community to pin on a ribbon and help end domestic & sexual violence. 5 RECOGNITION & CELEBRATION LUNCHEON June 13, 2018 This luncheon welcomes about 300 guests to highlight the special contributions community members & volunteers have made throughout the year to Vera House. Appreciation awards are presented to individuals and organizations who have demonstrated a commitment to the work of Vera House. The Vera House Board of Directors also presents the Sister Mary Vera Award to a member of the community that has made a significant contribution to those affected by domestic and sexual violence. The individual recognized will have performed this work in a manner consistent with the humility, gentleness and humanitarian spirit demonstrated by Sr. Mary Vera, who was one of the founders and a longtime supporter of Vera House. 6 NEW BEGINNINGS GALA December 1, 2018 Now in its 27 th year, New Beginnings will welcome over 500 guests to celebrate the season and support the agency s mission to end domestic and sexual violence. The evening will feature gourmet dining, entertainment, and a silent auction. The gala is sponsored by the Vera House Foundation Board of Trustees and is our largest fundraiser. Corporate & individual underwriting are critical to the event s success. To offer the same quality of counseling, advocacy, shelter and education, please consider donating to a specific program listed below. PROGRAMS AND SERVICES "One step closer to a healthy life!" Creating Hope Participant EMERGENCY SHELTER Comprehensive emergency sheltering services for individuals and families in crisis, at two confidential locations. NEW DIRECTIONS: RAPE CRISIS & SEXUAL ASSAULT SERVICES Services include 24-hour crisis response, individual, family and group counseling, medical advocacy, and information & referral for victims of sexual assault. OUTREACH & ADVOCACY Short-term counseling, support groups, and advocacy with legal, medical and social systems for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, and other crimes. YOUTH COUNSELING SERVICES Specialized individual, family and group counseling services to meet the unique needs of youth affected by sexual abuse and/or domestic violence. COMMUNITY & YOUTH PREVENTION AND EDUCATION School-based, community and professional education programs are offered on a variety of topics including sexual abuse prevention, domestic violence awareness, healthy relationships, dating violence and elder abuse. ALTERNATIVES AND STEPS A 15-class domestic violence education and accountability program designed to challenge the beliefs and attitudes of individuals who have been abusive to their partners and/or ex-partners.
