Program Sponsorship Opportunities FALL 2014-SPRING 2015 GIRLS ON THE RUN is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program designed to develop and enhance girls social, psychological, and physical competencies to successfully navigate life experiences. OUR 12 WEEK PROGRAM uses running, games, and meaningful discussions to teach specific life skills and encourage healthy decision making. Girls develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care and compassion, create positive connections with peers and adults, and make meaningful contributions to community and society. GOTR teams are led by trained and supportive Coach Mentors who guide the girls through the curriculum and prepare them to run or walk in an end of season 5k event with their teammates and community members. THE OUTCOME GOTR girls are less likely to participate in unhealthy and risky behaviors or have negative self-esteem or body image. Instead, they unleash confidence through accomplishment, while establishing a lifetime appreciation of wellness and positive lifestyle choices. Through participation in Girls on the Run, girls learn how to tap into their authentic self, strengthen it, and then share it with joy and energy in their community. That s important because there s a lot at work against these girls. Research done by Meredith College in the State of Girls in North Carolina Report tells us: One in four middle school females reports being cyberbullied or harassed through new media technologies, which include texting, social media, instant messaging and . Rates of girls considered overweight are on the rise. However, the percentage of girls describing themselves as overweight is higher than the number of girls who are classified as such. These girls are susceptible to developing risky and problematic behaviors to combat what may or may not be an actual weight problem. Negative body image perceptions and the subsequent destructive behaviors that result are on the rise among pre-teens in North Carolina. 53% of 13 year old girls are unhappy with their bodies. That number increases to 78% by age 17. Only 21% of girls believe they have the key quality required to be a good leader. Girls on the Run is a proven, positive character development program that works to overcome the everyday challenges girls face. Girls leave our program with a strong sense of self and the tools that equip them to speak up for themselves when faced with negative influences. Here s proof: Based on post season data, the number of girls who said they were comfortable with their bodies increased from 67% preseason to 73% postseason. The top adjectives GOTR participants use to describe themselves post season are strong, healthy and special. By end of season, more girls considered themselves leaders and as positive contributors to their community. I learned to be a leader. What I liked most was being able to meet new friends and run while finding out who I really am.

Currently, there are more than 100 girls on our 2014 Fall Season wait list. Additionally, we expect to award over $80,000 in financial assistance to over 450 girls who would otherwise be unable to participate in our program. Sponsorship contributions go directly toward our strategic growth plan to add new sites each season and increase scholarship access to more girls. WHY SUPPORT GOTR? In-Kind Donations In-kind donations, such food, beverages, prizes, equipment or discounts on services or merchandise are accepted if they are meet a specific programming or event need. A donation that is only offered in-kind is considered at 50% of its cash value. We encourage any company interested in offering an in-kind donation to also consider Sponsoring a Girl for an additional $200. During the Season Girls on the Run of the Triangle will Serve over 1,660, ages 8-12, at over 60 locations in Wake, Durham and Orange counties. Provide scholarships to more than 450 girls in need of financial assistance. Utilize the volunteer support of 300 coach mentors, who lead afterschool sessions. Host 2,200 participants in the Girls on the Run Spring 5k event on April 11, 2015 at the American Tobacco Campus. This inspiring, family-friendly event is open to family members and the surrounding community.
