1 Position Description Ovarian Cancer Australia Support, Position Purpose The Support, is one of three roles responsible for the further development, coordination and implementation of Ovarian Cancer Australia s (OCA) support programs for women with ovarian cancer and others affected (partners, family members, friends). Ovarian Cancer Australia s current information and support programs include: the Information and Referral service, whereby OCA responds to support and awareness enquires via phone and website, from the community web-based and printed information materials including OCA s flagship resource the Resilience Guide for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer Community-based Consumer Forums and Information Sessions reaching larger groups of women in the community OCA s national network of support groups (face-to-face and telephone-support groups) and external support groups and piloting of new information and support group programs for women OCA s Online Forum, providing peer support and connection with OCA OCA s webinar program- information and support sessions delivered online Location: Position reports to: Direct reports: Position type: Melbourne CBD (some interstate travel may be required), volunteer management 0.8 EFT (4 days per week) 6 month contract Background Ovarian Cancer Australia is an independent national organisation that takes action for people affected by ovarian cancer in Australia. We were founded in 2001 by a group of people who were personally affected by ovarian cancer. Our vision is to save lives and ensure that no woman with ovarian cancer walks alone. We work to ensure that: Women with ovarian cancer have a strong voice. Every Australian knows the symptoms and risks of ovarian cancer. All women with ovarian cancer have access to best practice diagnosis, treatment, information and support.

Our values are We listen, We are inclusive, We are courageous, We act with integrity For more information please visit Key Responsibilities Develop, implement and monitor new support programs including: Coordinate the development, piloting and evaluation of new programs to address identified needs or services gaps Identify strategies and approaches to build and sustain successful pilot projects Implement and monitor the integration of newly established programs into the suite of OCA s support activities Identify and develop partnerships and funding opportunities that will enable the development of innovative programs or their ongoing sustainability once successfully piloted. Co-ordinate the development and implementation of Support Program activities including: Ensure current evidence informs all program development, gained through: o the evaluation of previous OCA activities o current research o consultation with women and families. Develop, implement and maintain key policies, protocols and referral systems to ensure quality program delivery Undertake direct service delivery to support the range of OCA s support programs. This may include: o providing quality professional information, referral and support in response to community enquiries via telephone and , in line with established policies and protocols o facilitating (or coordinating the facilitation of) face-to-face and/or telephone support groups o implementing community engagement strategies to generate, encourage and build peer support via the Online Forum. o coordination of community-based Consumer Forums o developing and conducting professional training programs for health and community professionals and consumers. Develop systems and processes that build the capacity of volunteers or other external providers to undertake OCA support programs. Work with the OCA Communications Team to optimise the promotion of OCA s support programs. Maintain records of activity in line with established protocols.

3 Stakeholder and community engagement Build and support mechanisms to engage with consumers to further inform and develop OCA support programs (e.g. through individual consultations, focus groups, consumer advisory mechanisms, surveys, etc.) Develop and maintain ongoing contact and relationships with gynaecological oncology service providers, Cancer Councils and other relevant support services (local, state-based and national) to: o explore potential partnerships and collaborations o optimise communication and promotion of Ovarian Cancer Australia s support services, resources and programs o seek advice and guidance as needed to inform program development Represent OCA in a professional capacity at relevant meetings, committees, conferences, etc. Reporting, evaluation and accountability Maintain CRM database to record all support and related activities, in accordance with privacy guidelines. Ensure that all required data is routinely collected, collated and reported in accordance with organisational requirements. Regularly review program data, compile reports, identify areas for quality and service improvement and initiate appropriate quality improvement activities. Contribute to evaluation data collection as relevant to areas of responsibility and collate information into routine and ad hoc reports for Support Program s, Board, and funding bodies. Maintain current knowledge of advances in ovarian cancer, supportive and palliative care and methods of program delivery. General Work in collaboration with the organisation s awareness, fundraising, research and advocacy teams to support projects, campaigns and other OCA activities Work collaboratively with other OCA staff to optimise the promotion of support program activities Contribute to the development of Ovarian Cancer Australia and Support Program strategy and planning. Contribute to the culture of decision-making including initiation, cooperation, collaboration and shared accountability. Other duties as directed.

4 Experience, Skills and Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in health, nursing, social work, community development or related field. At least three years experience working with people with cancer or other chronic or lifethreatening illnesses Experience in community engagement with consumers and professional stakeholders Facilitation skills, with experience in developing and implementing training programs and or facilitating support groups Current Victorian Driver s License. Key Selection Criteria 1. Demonstrated experience in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating projects and programs to support people with cancer or other chronic or life-threatening illnesses through a variety of initiatives 2. Demonstrated experience in working with and supporting consumers 3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with: o extensive skills and experience in responding to the needs of individuals and group members o an understanding of the needs of, and strong empathy for those affected by ovarian cancer o experience generating successful collaborations with diverse stakeholders o experience representing the organisation in public forums 4. Demonstrated experience in utilising and maintaining CRM databases and excellent computer skills with high level of competence in Microsoft Office programs 5. The ability to demonstrate initiative, problem solve and to work with minimal supervision as well as part of a team, within a structured reporting system. 6. Good writing skills with the ability to contribute to reports and funding submissions of varying complexity 7. Experience in the use of technology to provide support including online programs, webinars and the use of social media 8. Experience and relevant networks in the not-for-profit sector 9.
