2 A step-by-step guide to Barnardo s Free Will Scheme I thought that Barnardo s was the right charity for me to support. I wanted to do something after my death because I can t give a great deal now. Mrs Rogers, Bristol Barnardo s offers a Free Will service in certain areas of the UK for limited periods of time. To take advantage of this offer, you will need the relevant list of solicitors and the applicable deadline. If you do not have this list, please call To make or change your Will, you must contact one of the law firms offering the free will service At your appointment the legal representative will help you draw up your Will (subject to certain conditions) When the Will is signed it is essential that you complete the Declaration Form and leave it with your law firm so that Barnardo s can take care of payment This scheme can also be used for identical Wills a Will written in the same terms for you and your partner The Will drafting process is an entirely confidential matter between you and your legal representative. Thanks to our supporters generosity, we now run over 400 local projects across the UK, which help to provide vital services to children in desperate need. But there s still much more to do Every day, we help those without families find loving homes through fostering and adoption. We support children who have been victims of abuse. We ensure young people receive training so that they can find employment. We help families who are homeless and in poverty. We fight for the rights of children with disabilities. And we provide support and respite for young carers. You can be sure your gift will be appreciated and put to good use. 130 hires a minibus for a group of disabled children to go out for the day. 500 covers the weekly cost of running 10 community youth groups for children living in disadvantaged areas. 2,000 buys swings for a children s play area. 10,000 pays for a year s support from a psychologist for a child who has suffered from sexual abuse. 20,000 provides a pre-school educational programme for 49 children living in a disadvantaged area. 6 How it works Barnardo s will pay for your (and your partner s) Will to be written or amended provided that you complete all (mandatory) sections of the Declaration Form, sign it and leave it with a participating law firm by the date specified (for a full list of participating firms, visit www. barnardos.org.uk/localfreewills). The participating law firm will forward this form to us for payment. You are not obliged to include a gift to Barnardo s in your Will. Your signature on this form signifies your consent that the form should be forwarded to Barnardo s. You must be aged 55 plus to be eligible for this Scheme (for identical Wills your partner can be under 55). You are eligible to participate only once. Each participating law firm has a more detailed list of Terms and Conditions that will be made available to you at your first appointment. What Barnardo s will pay Barnardo s has agreed to pay a standard fee for the cost of a standard Will and an identical Will (a Will written in the same terms) for your partner with each participating law firm s representative. If, after discussing your wishes with the participating law firm s representative, they advise you that your requirements will cost more than the standard fee, you may be required to pay the difference. This information will be provided to you before you become obliged to pay any money. The participating law firm may, at their discretion, choose not to draft your Will. Barnardo s manages the scheme in accordance with the Charity Commission Paying for Wills Guidance Notes and The Institute of Fundraising Codes of Fundraising Practice. Barnardo s promises to respect your privacy and the data we gather will be held in accordance with the Data Protection Act (1998).
