Please find enclosed further information about the Charity, the disease and this position, which hope you find helpful. have just joined the charity as CO, and this is a very exciting time for you to join us too as we enter our planning cycle for the coming financial year, building on recent growth and impact. Pancreatic cancer is a tough one but we re taking it on. t is the eleventh most common cancer in the UK, with around 10,000 people diagnosed each year. t is tough to diagnose 80% of pancreatic cancer patients are not diagnosed until the cancer is at an advanced stage. t is tough to treat Surgery is the only treatment which could save lives yet only 8% of people with pancreatic cancer have it. t is tough to research Pancreatic cancer research has historically been underfunded, over the last decade it has received less than 1% of the cancer research budget. t is tough to survive Less than 7% of people with pancreatic cancer will survive for 5 years in the UK. For too long the disease has been sidelined. We want to make sure that everyone affected by it gets all the help they need. We provide expert, personalised support and information via our Support Line and through our range of publications. We fund innovative research to find the
3 breakthroughs that will change how we understand, diagnose and treat pancreatic cancer. We campaign for change; for better care, treatment and research and for pancreatic cancer to have the recognition it needs. Together we re taking on pancreatic cancer. We now have the first ever national pancreatic cancer clinical guidelines to aid those involved in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. And UK research investment has now reached 10 million a year. But we have much more to do. Our ten-year vision is to transform the future for everyone affected by pancreatic cancer. We will work to increase UK research investment to a game changing 25 million, with 10 million raised by our own team. We will campaign for improved access to treatments, and better care for everyone with the disease. We will double the reach of our flagship service, the Pancreatic Cancer UK Support Line. And aim to raise 10 million sustainable income year on year by But we can t do this alone. We have always been at the heart of a determined community of people who share our ambitions. 4 Job Description Marketing and Communications Officer ach year Pancreatic Cancer UK runs several integrated campaigns as well as supporting Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month (PCAM) each November which is a fantastic opportunity to engage existing supporters in the work of the charity. We enable supporters to raise awareness of the cause and provide the means for them to fundraise on our behalf. We also work collaboratively with other pancreatic cancer charities during the month. We are seeking a highly energetic and organised Marketing and Communications Officer to build on the momentum of last year s PCAM and provide support to the project teams running integrated campaigns. PURPOS To coordinate Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month (PCAM) 2018, supporting the project manager (Senior Communications Manager) and PCAM project team to deliver against our engagement and income targets To support charity-wide integrated campaigns, helping the organisation to raise funds, engage with service users and supporters and raise awareness of our work. MAN RSPONSBLTS Overall responsibilities To co-ordinate PCAM and other assigned integrated campaigns across the charity, ensuring their smooth running and timely delivery To ensure each project is planned with clear objectives, with measurement and evaluation built in To co-ordinate the development of digital and print materials which meet the awareness raising and engagement objectives of all campaigns To support the delivery of the comms element of our partnerships i.e. the Less Survivable Cancers Taskforce.
5 Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month To support all departments across the charity to deliver a successful PCAM, building on the successes of last year s campaign To ensure that teams across the charity develop activities and produce their materials in line with our brand and the overall project plan To conduct a project evaluation of PCAM, bringing together the results across the various team s activities and including recommendations for the future To support the Purple Lights for pancreatic cancer and World Pancreatic Cancer Day initiatives. TASKS Tasks for assigned campaigns ngaging and liaising with external agencies and suppliers as required, monitoring their performance on the project and ensuring that they deliver to plan Writing design briefs and co-ordinating the delivery of the engagement materials for campaigns on behalf of the Comms team, ensuring that we have strong print materials and interactive digital content Proactively finding new ways to deliver against the engagement objectives of the charity, bringing new suggestions and ideas to the table Monitoring campaign budgets and overseeing the recording of all project expenditure Developing a good understanding of the supporter CRM database (Raiser s dge), following best practice procedures for recording data, and inputting data accurately and efficiently. Adding/amending and creating records on Raiser s dge Writing engaging content for the website and e-campaigns Helping to gather the stories of case studies to support our campaigns. Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month specific tasks Working alongside the Senior Communications Manager and our partner charities to deliver our Purple Lights for pancreatic cancer collaboration, agreeing requirements and helping to deliver partnership materials Supporting the development and maintenance of the Purple Lights for pancreatic cancer microsite Supporting the comms team to achieve the agreed objectives of the World Pancreatic Cancer Day campaign finding ways to engage UK audiences in the activities Assisting the development of our PCAM specific microsite. Having overall responsibility for managing the CMS and overseeing the uploading of content to the site by other users
6 Planning and organising meetings and producing project documentation Assisting the teams across the charity in pulling together data that will be used to evaluate the success of our campaigns against the agreed targets. Other responsibilities Providing support to all charity departments and undertake other administrative duties outside of the remit described when required Supervise any volunteers recruited for PCAM or other comms projects.
7 Person Specification Criteria xperience Proven experience in project-managing multi-dimensional cross organisation communication projects. xperience of organizing digital content, good understanding of the principles of developing engaging content, extensive experience of running social media campaigns. Good drafting skills in order to be able to write clear s, produce notes of meetings and write reports. xperience of working with communication suppliers e.g. designers and copy writers Good budget management skills. 9 Main terms of employment Reporting to: Salary: Band: Location: Hours: Tenure: Holidays: Pension: Benefits: Senior Communications Manager 25,500-28,500 per annum, according to experience Officer London S1 35 hours per week, 9am to 5pm Permanent (a six-month role will be considered) 25 days per year, plus bank holidays pro rata for part-time roles. The holiday year runs from 1 April to 31 March. ligible employees will be automatically enrolled into our Royal London pension scheme on their start date. PCUK will contribute 4% of gross salary; employees are required to contribute 1% off gross salary rising to 3% from 1 October mployees can opt out of the scheme at any time. We operate a government-approved childcare voucher scheme, offer travel loans for the purchase of an annual season ticket, a death in service benefit and paid compassionate leave. All employees have access to our employee assistance programme offering a free, confidential helpline on work and personal matters.
