1 About Us: The Cut Films project is the education and prevention arm of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. We are a peer-to-peer smoking prevention project. Our short film and creative media projects educate young people about smoking through the film production process. We work in partnership with Government, local authorities, schools and youth groups to deliver targeted smoking interventions. Job Description: Job Title: Place of Work: Hours of Work: Salary: Reports to: Freelance Cut Films Youth Worker Either Southwark or Windsor & Maidenhead and home-based Freelance 160 full day, 80 half day Head of Cut Films Effective from: January 2018 Level of DBS Enhanced Job Summary: To work as part of a small dynamic charity leading on the local Cut Films project and other ad-hoc projects. To train and support young people through the use of filmmaking to develop a peer-to-peer film and social media project to reduce the number of young people smoking and taking up To work in partnership with key stakeholders, local organisations, schools, youth groups and businesses across target area. To recruit, lead and develop a 6-10 member strong youth panel in target area delivering Arts Awards Qualification and Youth Voice Awards To actively recruit workshops across, youth organisations by consistent promotion, cold calling, social media and strategic engagement. Project manage and facilitate flexible filmmaking and anti-tobacco workshops in youth clubs, schools, and informal youth settings. To provide peer led support through youth panels, group interventions, 1:1 to young people, including those at risk ensuring their involvement in the project. To actively promote the project throughout target area through marketing, media and social network opportunities. To write engaging sessions plans with clear outcomes and objectives. To develop monitoring and evaluation plans to support activity with support.

2 To co-ordinate and collate evaluation data from young people, teachers and supporting adults as part following data protection policy and ethical guidelines (with Head of Cut Films and independent researchers). Organisational Relationships: To report to the Head of Cut Films, developing a good working relationship. To develop and sustain positive working relationships with key stakeholders, funders of existing services, local secondary schools and the youth service. To sustain positive working relationships with Cut Films core team. To sustain positive working relationships with other Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation staff such as Marketing, Fundraising and Events Main Duties and Accountabilities: To design and deliver training on filmmaking to both young people and key stakeholders in relation to smoke free services / youth services. To engage youth clubs, secondary, primary schools, colleges and FE designing and delivering workshops, assemblies, short term and long term projects based on the requirements of the organisation, young people and the project. Providing regular and timely reports to the Head of Cut Films, funders, internal staff and stakeholders on progress and activities. Support and train young people through the youth panels to be advocates on behalf of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and Cut Films, actively promoting the project amongst their peers. To set up and facilitate Cut Films one youth panel across target area, which teaches young people transferable skills. To engage and build positive relationships with young people across the borough including those who are considered at risk or socially excluded, supporting them to participate in the project. Develop young people s campaigning and social media skills as a vehicle for promoting positive health messages and sharing the dangers associated with smoking within the local community. Keep website and social media up to date and relevant to service users. To design and deliver workshops on key aspects of tobacco control to young people in target area. Develop and write resource materials for use in schools and youth clubs targeted towards relevant age group and individual needs. Keep abreast of developments in services and legislation relating to both tobacco and young people at a national and local level. To identify small grants through local funding streams which will support the development of this project and related campaigns. To assist in the organisation of an awards event in target area with the support of the Events team To collect and submit accurate quantitative and qualitative information so that young people s progress can be evidenced for partners, funders and other relevant parties

3 To develop and maintain relationships with organisations, businesses and key stakeholders throughout the length of the contract. Seek to improve his/her own performance, contribution, knowledge and skills. Participate in training and developmental activities as required. Carry out other relevant duties as required. Person Specification: Criteria Essential Desirable How will they be assessed Qualifications Experience Educated to A-level or equivalent. Professional qualification in a relevant discipline (Youth work, teaching, filmmaking). Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the educational, training and support needs of young people. A good understanding of the issues surrounding smoking and tobacco companies, including the impact on young people. Experience of planning and delivering activities for and with young people. A track record of delivering training to both young people and adults. Experience of developing and maintaining relationships with teachers, youth workers and key stakeholders. Knowledge of statutory and voluntary young people services in target area. Experience of working with youth panels. Experience of supporting and supervising volunteers and part time staff. Experience applying to local funding streams. Experience and understanding of the importance of working in a multi-agency environment. Experience and understanding of child protection and other related legislation regarding young people. Experience of designing and delivering interactive filmmaking workshops with

4 both young people and adults. Skills/Abilities Experience of work with young people from a variety of ethnic groups and cultural backgrounds. A proven ability to engage positively with young people from a range of backgrounds including those considered challenging., E Ability to collect management information both quantitative and qualitative for project monitoring purposes. Good verbal and written skills, including an ability to deliver presentations to a range of stakeholders. Ability to teach filmmaking skills including basic editing. Able to organise own work routine effectively and work towards targets with minimum support and supervision. Personal qualities Able to use IT and social media effectively. Creative, flexible and able to work well both independently and as part of a team. Punctual and reliable maintaining a professional service. Confident in public speaking to

5 both large and small groups. Commitment to the charities aims, ethos and values. A willingness to learn and a commitment to own personal and professional development. Other Enthusiastic and passionate about wanting to improve the lives of young people. Due to the nature of this role the successful candidate must be a non-smoker.
