2 WALK TO END LUPUS NOW 2015 VISION Our vision is a life free of lupus. MISSION The Lupus Foundation of America s mission is to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through program of research, education, support and advocacy. STRATEGIC OUTCOMES ü Reducing time to diagnosis ü Ensuring people with lupus have an arsenal of safe and effective treatments ü Expanding direct services and increasing access to treatments and care WHAT THAT MEANS When you participate in a Walk to End Lupus Now event, you give hope to the 5 million people living with lupus worldwide. The dollars raised improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through programs of research, education, support and advocacy. WALK TO END LUPUS NOW: THE FACTS Walk to End Lupus Now raised nearly $3.5 million in revenue in 2014 to support lupus. There were 55 walks across the country in Approximately 70,000 people participate in Walk to End Lupus Now events each year. 2

3 WE ARE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT LUPUS NOW. ABOUT LUPUS Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can damage any organ in the body and can cause life-threatening consequences. 1 in 185 Americans are living with lupus. Someone in the US is being diagnosed with lupus every 30 minutes. 90% of the people who develop lupus are females. Males can also develop lupus and their disease can be more severe in some organs. African-Americas, Hispanics, Latinas, Asians, and Native Americans are two to three times more likely to develop lupus than Caucasians; however, lupus effects people of all races and ethnicities. The age group that knows the least about lupus is the one at the highest risk. Among Americans 18-34, 72% have either never heard of lupus, or know little or nothing about the disease beyond the name. The first new lupus treatment in 52 years the only one specifically designed to treat lupus was approved by the FDA on March 9, ABOUT THE LUPUS FOUNDATION OF AMERICA The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) is the foremost nonprofit voluntary health organization dedicated to finding the causes of and cure for lupus and providing support, services and hope to all people affected by lupus. The Florida Chapter provides information, educational programs, and support groups, and personalized help to over 100,000 people living with lupus in Florida and their loved ones. The Chapter also supports research and promotes awareness through education and advocacy. 3

4 EVENT DETAILS Walk to End Lupus Now events are conducted nationwide by the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) and its nation network to raise money for lupus research, increase awareness of lupus, and rally public support for those who suffer from its brutal impact. Each year, thousands of people across the country join forces with the LFA and walk with one unified purpose to end lupus.
