Spring has sprung and here at Wheatland s we are very much looking forward to the months ahead. We have some great activities and events planned and hope that you can join us and join in the fun. I would like to remind you all of our family meetings that are held on a monthly basis. These meetings provide opportunities to discuss any concerns or comments and will keep you up to date with life at the home. As always if it is not possible to attend I am always available at the end of the phone or you can always pop in and see me on your next visit. Have you witnessed any great care or feel a member of staff goes that extra mile? Why not nominate them for employee of the month? At the end of the month they are all reviewed and the winner will be awarded a 25 gift card to show our appreciation. This is our way of saying thank you and highlight the importance and difference that staff members can make on a daily basis. Paperwork for nominations are held in reception. 2 News in and around Wheatlands News from Ellis Patsy Beddows Head of Unit and her team would like to thank all family members for being so involved with their loved ones care. They are all looking forward to getting outside and enjoying the warmer weather which we are hoping for. Residents on Ellis appreciate the activities program particularly loving the exercise to music. Patsy would like to remind all families that she is always happy to discuss any concerns that you may have and would welcome any suggestions. Corris News Carla Kitson has highlighted the importance of activities and feels the residents on Corris love the outings planned at Wheatlands. The games room in the conservatory is up and running and open for all to enjoy. Carla would encourages all families to use the Barnados suite. It is open for tea and coffee and provides the perfect opportunity to chat with their loved ones in a coffee shop atmosphere without leaving the building. Reminiscing about old times and spending quality time together brings many benefits and leaves the residents with a sense of purpose and can enhance their wellbeing. Carla prides herself on the relationships which she forms with the residents and their families. She is always free to chat, loves sharing stories and welcomes any suggestions. If you are pleased with the care you or a relative are receiving at a Barchester home, please consider sharing your experience with others who are looking for good quality care by submitting a review. You can pick up a review card to fill in at any Barchester care home or you can go to to submit a review online. Currently at Wheatlands we have a score of 9.3. This website is often the first one visited by individuals looking for care for their loved one and your feedback will be appreciated. It may offer reassurance and make the decision a little easier for those at a difficult time. The review cards are held in reception, they only take a few minutes to fill in and postage is paid, as always feedback is always welcome.

3 News in and around Wheatlands Street Party and Celebrations The Queen s birthday is upcoming and on the 21 st April 2017 we will be celebrating with a street party. Food, drink and entertainment will be organized and the atmosphere is one that you will not want to miss. After all the Queen will only be 84 once. The flags will be flying so come and enjoy all we have to offer. Talent Show Success The talent show that was held at Wheatlands was a great success. The residents judging panel gave Simon Cowell a run for his money and they enjoyed a variety of acts who all performed wonderfully on the night. It was great to see the young and old brimming with confidence and showcasing their performances. These included: Dancing from Cheerforce Ten Poetry from Mr Walker Pianist Singer Jungle Book performance from our own activities team and her children. A 50 cash prize was awarded to the Pianist who amazed us all with his natural ability on the keyboard. Runners up all received a hamper of choice.

4 Wheatland s continues to go the extra mile. Activities and More Please keep your eyes peeled on the activities board for all the information. Residents are set to enjoy trips to the theater, canal, Cosford and the seaside to name a few and are hoping to make memories and have fun along the way. If you think your loved one would like to go to any events please speak to the activities team. Here at The Wheatland s we are looking forward to a jam packed spring and have many events planned. Life within the home remains busy as always and the activities programme is not set to disappoint. We are expecting visits from animals, entertainers and our very own disco is organized for everyone to enjoy. If you have a talent that you could share let us know and come and experience life at the home and bring some laughter along the way. 5 A few words from Barchester Who gets your nomination this year? Nominations are now open for the Barchester Care Awards 2017, our annual celebration of the special people working and volunteering in our homes and hospitals. If you know a Barchester staff member who does an outstanding job and goes above and beyond their normal day-to-day duties to help residents, patients and their families, let us know! The categories range from Carer/Support Worker of the Year and Registered Nurse of the Year to Volunteer of the Year and Home Administration Champion. To nominate a member of staff, please complete the nomination form on our website or pick up a paper form from any Barchester care home. Nominations close on 30 th April. The online nomination form can be found here: A big thank you to our volunteers Our volunteers are wonderful people! Giving up time regularly to improve the lives of others is no small thing and the difference it makes is gigantic. 20 th April is Volunteer Recognition Day so Barchester would like to say a huge thank you to every single one of our volunteers. So far we have welcomed Lisa and Shelia. They are giving up their own time freely to support with activities and day trips out. We also welcome Kaitlin and Oliver who are volunteering some of their free time. This is going towards her Duke of Edinburgh Award. They are both from the local Secondary School and enjoy spending time with the residents chatting and sharing their stories. 6 Barchester s CEO takes on charity Chairman role Dr Pete Calveley, Chief Executive of Barchester Healthcare has said he is 'honoured' to be the new Chairman of Barchester's Charitable Foundation, a charity which gives support to older people and other adults living with a disability. Pete stepped into the role in January, taking over from Mike Parsons who chose to step down after nearly 12 years as Chairman of the Foundation. The Foundation is a grant giving charity helping older and disabled people in England, Scotland and Wales increase their independence and improve their quality of life. It was created by Barchester in 2000 as a way to give more back to the communities it serves and has awarded nearly 2.3 million in grants since Last year the Foundation provided 169 grants to individuals and small community groups, many of which went to projects tackling isolation through social activity, such as Dementia Adventure and the Wild at Heart project organised by Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust. Dr Pete Calveley says: Barchester's Charitable Foundation gives vital support to some of the most vulnerable people living in our communities and I'm honoured to be able to play a key role in that work. I'm looking forward to working alongside the Trustees to ensure the Foundation continues to allocate grants where they will have the biggest impact for the people we aim to help. Thank you to everyone who helped fundraise for the Foundation in 2016 and those who are planning future fundraising activities. Without your continued support, we wouldn't be able to provide these life-changing grants. Every pound raised for the Foundation by Barchester staff is matched by Barchester Healthcare.
