Minutes from April 2015 The minutes from the last meeting were agreed. P Facebook group Workshop. In addition to what we had planned to talk about on the agenda we also discussed in groups the proposal for a Facebook group for the Valuing People groups across Surrey to access. Group 1: Feedback. Will the group be safe and secure? Would a members area on the Partnership Board website be an alternative option? How would we prevent unsavoury characters from joining the group? Members would have to be cautious about who they invite to join and make sure that their own profile is secure. If the group is to be run by the Council could they provide somebody whose job it is to approve posts? Who will be liable for the page content? Will it be Surrey County Council?. Mid Surrey Local Valuing People Group Minutes June 2015 Page 3

Group 2: Feedback Surrey Choices administrators oversee the group activities. Any photos can be taken from angles not showing the persons face. Terms and conditions need to be agreed before people are allowed to join, dependent upon capacity and understanding. Group 3: Feedback Will the group be easily accessible and contain information about blocking those who wouldn t be appropriate for the group? Will you loose the group of people that either can t or don t access Facebook? What is the purpose of the group? Lisa is going to take back the questions and feedback to the Social Media team working on developing how the Facebook page will be set up. Lisa explained to the group that the Facebook group would be a closed group and only accessible to approved members who were known to have a genuine connection with the Valuing Peoples groups. Any key conversations which took place on the group could still be brought to Valuing People group meetings so that those who don t use Social media are not left out. 5 Susie Hartley from Surrey and Borders Partnership. Susie, a Communications Manager from Surrey and Borders Partnership came to speak to the group to get some feedback on some of their current services available across Surrey. Including Ramsay House at West Park in Epsom Gallwey, St Ebba s Hospital in Epsom MyTime in Reigate What do you like about these locations? Sally Dubery: They are not very accessible, transport is difficult and some are on old psychiatric hospital sites. Marion Price: Ramsay House is off the beaten track, hard to get to if you don t have a car and has a poor bus service. Rachael Walker: It is not a very welcoming building. Anne-Marie Wylie: Badly signposted inside the building as to where to go, Gallwey has a very professional staff team. Marion Price: Quite inaccessible, costly to get to by Taxi as a fair distance from train station and not deaf people friendly. Rachael Walker: If someone is feeling anxious about going the old buildings don t always help, they need to be relaxed in order to open up and engage, which would help with a better atmosphere. Mid Surrey Local Valuing People Group Minutes June 2015 Page 5

Is there anything you like about these services? Sally Dubery: The associations the locations have can make people not feel comfortable in going there. Norah Lewis: There would be a benefit to mental health services being based within a more GP type setting. Sally Dubery: When someone feels anxious it is easier to go somewhere that you are familiar with, it is not as daunting. Norah Lewis: Suggested links with the Wellbeing Centre's across the County as they provide multiple services in one location. Marion Price: Raised whether the consulting rooms has been sound proofed for confidentiality. Sally Dubery: Asked where people in Elmbridge would access services? Susie Hartley: Confirmed those in Elmbridge would access services based in Epsom. What would you like to see? Rachael Walker: In the Community, one stop places. Sally Dubery: A base like a Wellbeing Centre, so much going on people would not know specifically what you had come for. Marion Price: Locations that are regularly served by a Bus route. Susie explained that at the moment this is an engagement process, they will then go into planning and scoping work. The entire process could take a few years from start to finish. 7 KAG Self Advocacy The Hate Crime DVD was made following on from cases such as Fiona Pilkington and Francesca Hardwick in When 33 complaints had been made in 10 years between Fiona Pilkington took her and her daughters life s in 2007 when she could no longer tolerate the abuse they were subject to. The hate crime clips show 3 different people with different needs and different outcomes. There are also 21 mini clips which cover different topics such as poor practice. The DVDs will be accompanied by Easy Read resources. There have also been changes to reflect this on the Surrey Police website. The DVD can help to educate Police, Carers and support staff. The group watched the Hate Crime clip about Frank, which focuses on representing someone who has a disability and also appears to be on the autistic spectrum. Llinos John asked How do you work with people with Learning Disabilities to prepare them to watch the film? Barry said that we prepare them by telling them that it is all acting like Eastenders and that none of these people in the film were really hurt. Mid Surrey Local Valuing People Group Minutes June 2015 Page 7

KAG Self Advocacy Alison commented that in the clip only one of the three perpetrators' is shown being apprehended by the Police for what they did to Frank. We also watched mini clips about someone being sold stuff door to door, someone's mate keeping their change when they ve got them some shopping.. Also someone who is being ignored by their Support Worker. There will be 1,000 copies of the DVDs which will be sent throughout Surrey to various places such as Day Centres, The Hubs and Schools and Colleges. Barry told us that the members of the advocacy group led this project, they came up with the scenes to be shown, they acted, directed and brought it all together. Mid Surrey Local Valuing People Group Minutes June 2015 Page 8

News Sharing Barry Hobbs shared with the group that KAG are launching their new advocacy group in Staines. This will be the 6 th group running across the County. The launch is Thursday 25 th June at Fairways day service from 10:30-12:00pm. Rachael Walker shared with the group that Surrey Choices are launching new summer schemes this year over the summer holidays with lots of activity groups. Anne Marie Wylie told us that the Sunnybank trust would be attending the Surrey Independent Living Fair on Thursday 25 th June at Epsom Downs Racecourse from 10:00-16:00 Lisa told the group about the launch of the Hear our Voice in Surrey campaign during Learning Disability week 2015 which ran from 15 th -22 nd June The Valuing People groups in Partnership with KAG advocacy groups are launching their own Hear our Voice campaign in Surrey.
