2 Invitation from the Conference Convener The Australian Health Promotion Association 20th National Conference 2011 It is my pleasure to announce that the Australian Health Promotion Association (AHPA) will host their 20th National AHPA Conference in Queensland at the Cairns Convention Centre from April It has been ten years since Queensland hosted the AHPA National Conference, with the last conference being held in 2001 at the Gold Coast. We are very delighted to invite your organisation to support this premier event which aims to build on previous delegate numbers, attracting an anticipated 500 influential key health decision-makers and professionals from all over Australia. The focus of the conference will be on the determinants of health, with a strong emphasis on the social determinants of health such as stress, early life, social exclusion, unemployment, social support, addiction, food and transport. The conference will also focus on solutions to strengthen action to address the determinants of health. The report of the Commission on Social Determinants of Health demonstrated how social factors directly shape health outcomes and explain health inequities. The report stressed the need to tackle the leading causes of ill-health at their roots, going beyond encouraging individuals to change their behaviour. The Conference Program will provide keynote, concurrent, workshop and panel sessions to appeal to professionals and practitioners from a range of disciplines and background. Outlined in this Sponsorship and Exhibition Prospectus is a range of opportunities available to you to interact with the anticipated 500 delegates comprising of health promotion, population health and related sectors.
