2 About The Centre The Staff team and Clients would like to welcome you to our Centre. This guide will tell you about some of the important things The Centre first opened in October 1981 to provide a service to adults with a severe learning disability living within the surrounding area. It is now one of 8 main Day Care Centres within the Belfast Trust. The Centre currently provides a service to 128 adults with a range of individual support needs and interests. What does the Centre, ETC Club, Bluebell Cards do for clients? Offer a safe place where clients can be cared for and helped to learn and develop new skills. Offer a lot of different day opportunities and activities which clients want to try at the centre and in the community. Help clients to make choices. Work with clients to carry out assessments, draw up care plans and individual timetables. Give advice support respite to our carers.

3 About Bluebell Cards Bluebell group started in the Orchardville Centre in 2008 and moved out to Finaghy Community Centre in About 14 clients attend the project each day where they are helped by Trust staff to learn new work skills and to use art and craft to make beautiful greeting cards. Clients also learn to do more everyday things for themselves and become a greater part of their local community. Staff at Orchardville TRC, ETC Club and Bluebell Cards The Manager is Karen Neville and she has worked at the Centre for 15 years. There are 3 Assistant Managers who help Karen to look after the Centre, ETC Club and Bluebell Cards. Clients at the Centre, ETC Club and Bluebell Cards are cared for and supported by Day Care staff. All staff are well trained, have good experience and know their clients well.

4 Orchardville TRC Opening Times 10 Orchardville Ave Finaghy Road North Belfast BT10 0JH Telephone: The Centre is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am-4.30pm ETC Club and Bluebell Cards also open Monday to Friday from 9.00am- 4.00pm. Sometimes staff and clients meet in the evening or at the weekends to do activities. Tea breaks/lunches Clients can bring in a packed lunch or have a hot meal/salad, fruit/dessert at the Centre for a small amount of money 1.50 At ETC Club, members can bring a packed lunch, a snack to cook or money to buy lunch at a local shop, café. At Bluebell Cards, clients usually bring a packed lunch or a snack to make.

5 How We Can Support You Things We Do The Centre, ETC Club and Bluebell Cards help clients to take part in lots of activities such as: Talking and Listening Making Healthy Choices Learning to do things for themselves every day Basic Reading, Money work Arts Crafts Table Top Activities You can have your say on how to run the centre.

6 What Can You do at the Centre? Relaxation and Sensory Work Cookery Computers Gardening Keeping Healthy and Fit, Swimming and Dance Music Using Local Shops, Library, Leisure

7 How To Get a Place at the Centre/ETC/Bluebell Cards New clients may need help to fill in an application/referral form. This tells us about what help a client needs, their likes, hobbies. How Clients Are Involved How You Can Have Your Say Clients are helped to: Fill in Easy Read Complaints/Compliments sheets, suggestion and evaluation forms, opinion sheets. Have their say at Clients/Club Committee Meetings and Group Meetings. Take part in User Friendly Surveys/ questionnaires. Staff will speak on behalf of a client who is unable to say what they like or want.

8 Medication Staff are trained to take care of all medication which needs to be given to clients at the Centre, Bluebell Cards or ETC. Staff will support any client who can take care of their own medication.

9 Complaints / Complements Sheets Staff will always try to make sure that a good service is offered to clients. To help, staff will encourage clients to talk about what is good or bad. Clients have the right to complain if they are not happy Staff work closely with clients to help them to talk or write about something that they are unhappy or happy about. Staff will then tell clients what has been done to help make things better. 10 RQIA Each year, the Centre, ETC Club and Bluebell Cards have an inspection to make sure that the day care services are safe, good and that clients/carers are happy with them. The inspector will speak with clients, staff and possibly parents/ carer if they are present, also check the buildings, paper work/files to see if people are happy with their day time activities and support. The inspector will also check that staff are working well to meet standards set. Staff will help clients to understand about the inspection and to take part. The inspector will write a report about the Centre, ETC Club and BlueBell Cards, which staff will speak to clients, parents/carers about. This can also be found on the RQIA website on a computer Clients/Carers may want to have their own copy of this report and staff can help them with this.

11 Transport Transport assessments are done with each client to look at how clients can best get to the Centre Bluebell Cards or ETC Club Most clients travel on Trust Bus or Public Transport. Some travel by Taxi or walk or get a lift from their Family Consent Staff will always work closely with clients to try to explain what they are doing and to check if a client agrees to do some thing. This can be done by talking, by using signs, photos, pictures or body gestures to help clients to understand what they are being asked to agree to.

12 Personal Belongings Clients have their own lockers to put their bags, lunches,coats into and are helped by staff to keep these things safe Clients should not bring in personal things which are important to them or cost a lot of money e.g. games, CD players, mobile phones. Payment and Cost Clients do not have to pay any money to attend the centre, ETC or Bluebell. There is no cost for Trust transport. Clients do have to pay 1.50 if they wish to have a dinner at the centre and to take part in activities arranged by Outreach/ college e.g. flower arranging, bowls, cookery Clients may get some money for doing some in-house jobs. Some clients who make their way by public transport e.g. bus, taxi may get some money towards this.

13 Centre Rules And Guidelines There are a lot of rules that staff and clients must follow when at the centre, ETC / Bluebell Cards or out on an activity. These are called policies, and procedures and guidelines and they are there to help to keep everyone safe. Staff will explain these to you using pictures, signs and symbols.
