3 HSLC: The year in review January 2006 Wexford County reports jail overcrowding Healthy Kids Healthy Families for overweight children is starting Northern Michigan has the second highest number of medically uninsured families in the State Kirt Baab provides a special report on the Michigan Prisoner Re-Entry Initiative in northern Michigan. Susan Rogers begins her membership as Missaukee County commission representative

5 HSLC: The year in review March 2006 Our first Housing First client gets TSHLAP funding Wexford United Way announces it will be giving back $235,000 to the community this year CMH positions itself to apply for children s mental health block grants We begin to see the upcoming fiscal problems possible elimination of the single business tax with no plans to replace the revenue

6 HSLC: The year in review April 2006 Family Expo held at Cadillac Junior High Medicare Part D is grabbing headlines and help is available through COA Youth Enhancement Support Services (YESS) reports on outcomes Memorandum of Understanding is signed for development of 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness Two day suicide prevention training for key community Gatekeepers is held.

7 HSLC: The year in review May 2006 Let s Get Moving Northern Michigan kicks off its fourth year! Early On celebration is held Girls on the Run completes its 5th year with a 5k race Senior Expo is held Mental Health posters are distributed to workplaces Schizophrenia virtual reality tour is experienced by many.

8 HSLC: The year in review Secondary / Maintenance Goals Identified: Improve healthy lifestyles Focus on poverty reduction / economic security Support the Michigan prisoner Re-Entry Initiative Improve outcomes for children and families June & July Year Plan to End Homelessness is being developed. Mini plans for sub groups: - Faith-based - Landlords - Elderly - Chronically Homeless - Families with Children - Youth (16-21)

10 HSLC: The year in review September 2006 We learn more about local drug and alcohol services from Catholic Human Services Baker College announces it will be adding an RN curriculum HSLC endorses Great Parents Great Start grant Teen Help Cards Are introduced for all 6-12 graders Youth Suicide Survey results of 200+ area youth shared with HSLC and community groups: Why are we seeing so many youth suicides in our area? Is it difficult for a teen to see beyond school? How can a parent help a teen who is depressed? Cadillac placed 3 rd in Let s Get Moving!

JET program introduced (jobs, education, training) - a DHS partnership with Michigan Works!

System of Care for Children with Mental Illness planning grant begins
