2 Pennsylvania Builders letter District News Page 2 Pennsylvania New Builders Clubs Since the end of last school year, we have had 1 new Builders Club open and I school reactivated its charter that stopped two years ago. Raub Middle School in Allentown chartered in June They recently had their charter celebration that I was invited to. Good luck to all the new officers and the advisors. Here is a picture from the charter celebration. Congratulations and thank you to all involved in getting these Builders Clubs up and running!! Congrats to Tunkhannock Area Middle School for reactivating their Builders Club charter this fall. So excited to see everyone ready to get back to serve! St. Rosalia Academy- We are completing our Christmas activities.. We collect toys for the Toys for Tots program. This year we had a box decorating contest for the boxes to be used to collect the toys. We also write letters to Santa for the Macy's "Make a Wish" program. Each student in Builders Club wrote Club a letter News to Santa for the program. On December 14th, we will be visiting the Senior Citizen Apartments next to the school and singing Christmas carols for the residents. We made Christmas cards for them as well. We'll finish off the festivities with a Builders Club Christmas party on December 21st.
3 Pennsylvania Builders letter Page 3 Pittston Area Builders Club- Pittston Builders club has collected 40 thanksgiving dinners for local families. Bloomsburg Area Middle School Builders Club- Our club helped assist our Student Government Association with a Pink Out dance to raise awareness and help knock out Breast Cancer. We are currently in a fundraiser for the American Heart Association in their Hoops for Heart incentive. We recently had the principal from the City of Joy school in Rwanda visit our school and talk about education in Africa. The group is currently brainstorming ideas on how to best help those students raise funds for a playground. Bradford Area Builders Club- On November 16th, we hosted a KEY Leader conference for 6-8 grade students here at Fretz Middle School. We had approximately 100 students attend, who were chosen based on teacher recommendation. As this was a Kiwanis sponsored/affiliated event, I have had approximately 10 students join Builders Club since. Tyrone Area Middle School Builders Club- Tyrone Area Middle School s Builder s Club is working on Christmas Caroling at Epworth Manor (an old folks home in town), making cards for the residents there and selling Candy Cane O Grams at school. Easton Area Builders Club- The EAMS Builders Club is off and running! We are continuing with our can tab collection. We got a last minute request from our guidance department to help wrap gifts for needy families in our school and if course we said yes! We love it when our school thinks of us when they need help. After the holidays, we will focus our attention to the Eliminate project and the reading oasis at the Easton community center. We'd like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year!
4 Pennsylvania Builders letter Page 4 Lower Macungie Middle School Builders Club- The Lower Macungie Middle School Builders Club marched in the Macungie Halloween Parade in Oct. and won 2 nd place in our division. We dressed as construction workers as we are Builders Club, and wore plastic hard hats, jeans, flannel shirts, and tool belts donated by local hardware stores, and carried inflatable hammers. We handed out candy and also gave away our hard hats and inflatable hammers to the children. Then we raised over $200 for Trick-or- Treat for UNICEF. We also filled four boxes for the local charity, Holiday Hope Chests that provides Christmas presents for local needy children. We also made holiday bags to donate to our school s Secret Holiday Shop for students who can t get presents for family due to financial reasons. Next week we help usher and hand out programs at our school s holiday concerts, as well. Emory H Markle Intermediate School Builders Club- We participated in the local Crop Walk for Hunger on Oct. 16 to benefit the Hanover Area Council of Churches and a rose sale in September with our local Kiwanis Club of Hanover- we'll be making a donation with the proceeds to a local charity. We are also ushering for holiday concerts in our schools this month and selling pecans to benefit the Hanover Kiwanis Foundation and another charity with the proceeds. On Oct. 29 we cleaned up a local park. Members covered beach volleyball courts with tarps and tires, scrubbed off the park picnic tables, repositioned soccer goals, etc. as part of the park's preparation for the winter. Wyoming Area Catholic Builders Club- Our club just wrapped up their coat drive at the Care and Concern Clinic in Pittston. We presented almost 60 coats for the Clinic. We also helped out with the Wyoming Area Kiwanis Club with their Breakfast with Santa event and we helped them with feeding the homeless at a local chuch.
5 Pennsylvania Builders letter Page 5 Reading Intermidate High School School Builders Club- The Reading Intermidate High School Builder's Club has been active. We started the year off doing a clean up around the building, then the group pitched in to clean inside the building to help out a custodian who had an unexpected death in the family. We had a lot of fun baking cookies for the Hope Rescue Mission homeless shelter. Our group also did a pink out and collected money for breast cancer awareness. Finally, we participated in the Reading Holiday Parade respresenting our school and Kiwanis by managing one of the giant balloons. We plan to end the year with a drive to collect necessities for the Opportunity House shelter. We are building leaders who are concerned about their community.
