1 DALLAS ASSOCIATION OF HEALTH UNDERWRITERS NEWSLETTER August 2018 August 2018 Greetings and welcome to our August edition of our DAHU Newsletter. These are exciting times in our industry. The industry is constantly changing, and we must all change and keep up with the confusing, and often uncertain landscape in our Insurance World. This means our Association must change with you. This association is now one of the great ways to keep informed, listen to great programs and get recharged, network and share ideas, and through our lobbyists, both Federal and State, make sure that our voices are being heard in Washington, D. C. and in Austin. If you are not contributing to the PAC, you are letting your associates do all the heavy lifting. So, get involved, work on a committee, contribute to a PAC and remember, now more than ever, your clients need you more than ever! And let us thank God for such a great industry! In this issue: September Monthly Meeting Save the Dates Call for Happy Hour Sponsors August Meeting Recap Sponsors 2018 Lee Ripley Golf Classic Legislative Corner President s Message We have an exciting lineup in the coming months, with Creating Connections Co. for our September 19 th meeting. They will show us how to develop Priceless Business Relationships. Be sure to join us September 25th out at the Clubs of Prestonwood The Hills in Plano for our annual Lee Ripley Golf Classic. Please register for both on our website; I recently attended a symposium in Boise, Idaho with some great people and wonderful programs. One of the keynote speakers, Dr. Alan Zimmerman, gave an outstanding program, on the next page I put together my key takeaways from his mind-bending talk. Thank you, Steve Neuner, honored to serve as your President! 1
2 Mind Binders that Destroy Your Confidence and Effectiveness 1. Power of thoughts and words Mind Binders are negative words you think or say to yourself. Once you plant these Binders into your mind, they become fact and you tend to act accordingly. They negatively impact your performance. 2. Mind Binders a. There are hundreds of Mind Binders. Which of the following apply to you? I can t quit smoking. I can t remember people s names. I don t seem to have much patience. I always get a cold in the fall. I have a poor memory. I don t have as much zip as I used to have. I can t take any more of these changes. I get a headache when I don t get enough sleep. I m not as smart as a lot of people. I can t lose weight. I can t stick to a diet. I ve always been this way. That s the way I was raised. I just can t seem to get going in the morning. I don t like my job. I ve got too much work to do. I just haven t felt too good lately. I get nervous around strangers. I m too old to change. I don t have any special talent. I can t think of things to talk about to people. I just can t seem to save money. I m self-conscious. I worry a lot. I can t give a speech. Most of us have heard plenty about positive thinking in the past, however, we all need reminders once in a while, I hope these little gems can help. 2
