2 Who are Mind? We re Mind, the mental health charity. We re here to make sure anyone with a mental health problem has somewhere to turn for advice and support.

4 Background to Get Set to Go Research from Ecominds Performance Matters: Mental Health in Elite Sport Evidence base Regional good practice National partner with the capacity to work locally 70% of those of us with mental health problems said that having a mental health problem made it more difficult to take part in sport and physical activity.
5 Our vision: Sport and physical activity is used to build resilience, to enable and support mental health recovery and to tackle stigma.

8 Programme outcomes For those of us with mental health problems: Improve the mental and physical wellbeing of people with mental health problems Increase social capital and decreased social isolation Increased confidence and self esteem Increased choice and control and sense of efficacy For everyone: Increase the understanding of the benefits of sports participation on mental health Better understanding of how to provide help and support to motivate other people with mental health problems.

14 Participants Engaged over 1300 people locally in sport and physical activity sessions 34% were inactive at the start of the programme Delivered sessions ranging from walking basketball and seated exercise to football tournaments, running, cycling archery and water sports! At 3 and 6 months follow up Barriers Feelings and number of days moderate/vigorous activity
15 Outcomes Mental health The support and encouragement you have provided to help me back into exercise has been invaluable. I feel so much more hopeful and much better in myself! And I m really enjoying my new exercise routine! I never thought I d be able to do this again, and wouldn t have done so without Get Set To Go support so, THANK YOU! Physical health I m starting to feel more flexible which has helped my arthritis, now I have more stamina to exercise longer. My high blood pressure is also starting to lower. I love boxing so much I have signed up to a Crisis boxing session
16 Outcomes Individual development I've always loved football but never had the confidence to join a team, I went along to the training session full of anxiety but it was fantastic. They made me welcome and encouraged me, even though I was extremely unfit and not much kop. I've lost weight and got fitter and even scored my first ever goal 25 years after getting left out of the school team. My proudest possessions are now my football boots and the medals I've won. I can't begin to explain how this has helped my confidence and self-esteem Economic development From securing part-time employment to gaining the skills and confidence to volunteer. Social /community development Cohesive communities working with homelessness, addiction, BME, LGBT, community sports and physical activity providers, health
17 Peer Sports Navigators Volunteers Trained over 114 peer sports navigator volunteers Themes: - Motivated due to own experiences of physical activity and impact on mental health - Role models who can break down stigma - Personal benefits mental wellbeing, confidence and professional development - Challenges including internalising the pressures and not wanting to let people down I do get quite a sense of wellbeing from being able to help effectively. It gives me confidence, it gives me purpose, it gives me potentially new skills and it gives me the social stuff as well. It makes me interact with the world in a better way, a more successful way.
