The teaching is inspirational, and engages and motivates children to learn extremely well. This helps children make outstanding progress. The childminder promotes children's development of communication and speaking skills exceptionally well. For example, she engages children in positive high-quality conversations during group discussion times. The parents are kept fully involved with and informed of their children's progress. This helps provide children with an excellent level of consistency in their learning. For example, the childminder holds regular events where parents meet and she encourages them to make regular input into their children's progress. There are extensive opportunities for children to develop excellent mathematical skills. Children develop extremely good skills to support their future learning The childminder and assistants are extremely positive role models. Children are exceptionally polite and their behaviour is exemplary. For example, children compromise and resolve minor conflicts with a high level of maturity. Children have an exceptional understanding of their physical well-being and know how to meet their own needs exceptionally well. For example, young children access drinks themselves after exercise and rest when they feel tired.
2 Inspection report: Carrington, Colleen Sonia, 11 March of 5 What the setting needs to do to improve further To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should: extend the already excellent range of opportunities for children to develop their understanding of the natural world even further. Inspection activities The inspector viewed the areas of the childminder's home that children use. The inspector observed the childminder and her assistants interacting with children. The inspector sampled written documentation, including children's progress reports, policies and procedures. The inspector spoke to children and the childminder, and took the views of parents into consideration. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. Inspector Kelly Hawkins
3 Inspection report: Carrington, Colleen Sonia, 11 March of 5 Inspection findings Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding The childminder provides excellent support for her assistants and they all work extremely well together as a team. She uses an extensive range of ways to monitor and improve the consistency of inspirational teaching. For example, they all attend regular training and hold daily evaluation meetings. Children are actively involved in the self-evaluation process. For example, they share their views about the activities and this helps them to remain immensely interested in learning. The childminder liaises closely with other early years professionals and regularly updates her knowledge, such as through appropriate online forums. This supports children with a highly positive level of consistency and the childminder keeps up to date with new ideas. The childminder tracks children's progress with exceptional accuracy. She promptly identifies any gaps in their development and closes them quickly with extremely good support. The childminder and assistants have an extremely good knowledge of how to keep children safe and protect their welfare. They know who to contact if they have any concerns. Safeguarding is effective. Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding The childminder extends children's learning exceptionally well. For example, children who show an interest in music have the opportunity to learn the piano. Children develop exceptional opportunities to develop their creativity and use technology to extend their learning even further. For example, they use the internet and projectors to explore images of their creations, and make links to their learning and the outside world. The childminder uses funding particularly well to meet children's individual needs and promote their excellent progress. Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding The childminder has an exceptional knowledge of the children and their individual personalities. She implements an extremely effective key-person system with her assistants. This enables children to develop excellent relationships to promote their highly positive emotional well-being. The childminder supports children exceptionally well to understand similarities and differences in the community and other people. Children develop excellent physical skills and safety awareness. For example, they explore and challenge their abilities as they role-play camping, making dens and campfires. The childminder highlights a need to extend children's understanding of nature even further. Outcomes for children are outstanding All children make exceptional progress, including those with specific needs and those learning English as an additional language. They develop an excellent understanding of early reading and writing skills. For example, children very easily recognise letters and write their own names. This helps prepare them incredibly well for the move to school.

The childminder cares for children Monday to Friday, from 8am to 6pm, all year round. She works with assistants. The childminder receives funding to provide free early education for children aged two, three and four years. She holds a level 3 early years qualification. This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of provision that is registered on the Early Years Register. The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children s learning, development and care, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.
