Hello once again and welcome to the next installment of our newsletter at The Wheatland s. As always life at the home remains busy and we are all looking forward to the months ahead which I am sure will bring many occasions and reasons for us to celebrate and enjoy time together. As a manager I get to see the great activities which are on offer and often join in these with the residents. It is wonderful to see the enjoyment and benefits which activity can bring and welcome you all to come and see what is on offer throughout the home and celebrate life at The Wheatland s. Every individual has different interests and the summer saw a whole variety of events which ranged from belly dancers to baking cakes. If you have any special talent or story which you are willing to share please feel free to give us a call and we will pencil you in to our activity programme. I hope everyone is able to enjoy the short time ahead of us before the Christmas chaos descends on us all and we are all thinking of those last minute gifts or sipping at a mulled wine in front of an open fire. 2 News in and around Wheatlands Barnado s reunion The Wheatland s saw another reunion of the old home boys of Corris House this week. A great day was had by everyone and many stories were told. Staff and residents enjoyed musical entertainment and we learnt a few things along the way. Who knew the original stair case was sold on ebay? It is good to know that not all things have changed and The Wheatland s formally known as Corris house still holds some magic for everyone. Employee of the Month Amiee Hasleton has been awarded employee of the month for October. Her hardwork and dedication has been rewarded with a small token of our appreciation. Staff and residents recognize her warm smile and passion which she brings to work each day. We would like to thank all staff for their support and commitment especially as we are approaching the festive season. Awaiting cqc report As you are all aware we welcomed cqc into our home recently with open arms for an unannounced inspection. We are awaiting for the report as we speak and will announce any news soon. Hopefully we will all be able to enjoy a celebration where we will see staff recognized for their achievements and all their hard work. Keep posted for any news to follow.

3 News in and around Wheatlands Birthday s galore at The Wheatlands. Many staff and residents are celebrating their birthdays within the month of October. We wish everyone many happy returns and a wonderful day. The residents have been busy with our dedicated activities team and have made their own banner to celebrate the day. Bonfire Night 5 TH NOVEMBER 5PM ONWARDS Musical entertainment from the one and only Tom Wenlock. An evening to be enjoyed by all while we munch on hot dogs and wonder at the marvel of fireworks exploding in the sky. Everyone welcome Wear it pink On the 21 st October 2016 all staff and residents are invited to wear pink for the day for a small donation. All money raised will be donated to the breast cancer awareness charity. This day last year was wonderful fun and staff raised over for this great charity. Thank you to everyone who support us at these times. Halloween The home will see Halloween decorations throughout the home, ghoulish spooky treats and activities will be on offer. The residents are all set to enjoy a musical afternoon with Rachel Hyde on the 31 st October 2016 at 14.30pm. It would be great to see everyone wearing their best witches hat, scary outfit or just enjoying the fun at The Wheatland s.

We received lots of outstanding entries and read many heart-warming accounts of excellent care. Thank you to everyone who nominated somebody for an award!

5 Specialised frame helps man to stand again A 1,000 grant from Barchester s Charitable Foundation has helped fund a new standing frame for a man living with cerebral palsy, which has had a dramatic effect on his health. David Cook, aged 28, who lives in Alvechurch, was suffering with increasing health problems because it was very difficult for him to get up from his chair, but since the purchase of a specialised standing frame, David s father says these problems have been quickly disappearing. Being able to stand strengthens David s muscles and improves circulation, helping to alleviate many of the problems he was experiencing before. It is making it easier for him to continue living independently, with support from live-in carers. Residents & Relatives Surveys The residents and relatives survey give residents and their family members the chance to give us feedback about the care you or your loved one receives. Your opinion really matters to us and it allows Barchester to make any necessary changes to our services so that we can continue to deliver the highest possible standard of care. Thank you to everyone who has completed the residents survey or who has assisted someone with filling it out. All surveys will need to be completed and sent back to us by the end of October. The relatives survey will be sent out in September.
