1 1 Dear Brandon Sports and Aquatic Club, 405 Beverly Blvd, Brandon, FL FRIENDS DOWN SYNDROME - WEST FLORIDA will be hosting its 3 RD FDSWF Buddy Walk at Raymond James Stadium, October 27, 2018, from 1pm to 5pm. The FDSWF Buddy Walk is one of the largest Down syndrome awareness events in the Tampa Bay area, bringing together more than 2,500 people for a great cause and an exciting day. The actual walk is only a small portion of the day s activities, but it unites our participants and symbolizes celebration and acceptance of people with Down syndrome. In addition, the event raises funds to help further the missions of the FRIENDS DOWN SYNDROME WEST FLORIDA (FDSWF) and the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS.org). We invite you to join us for this exciting and meaningful day, either as a Participant, Sponsor or an Exhibitor. Your participation and generosity will support national initiatives through NDSS, as well as help fund meaningful programs and services that support local families who have children with Down syndrome, the most common chromosomal variation in humans. 2 2 You will also be supporting national efforts in Down syndrome research and advocacy as 7% of the proceeds from this year s Buddy Walk will go directly to the National Down Syndrome Society. The Buddy Walk was created by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. In 2017, more than 190 Buddy Walk events took place in 49 states in 5 countries, with over 330,000 participants who raised more than $14.2 million dollars to benefit local programs and services, as well as the national advocacy initiatives of NDSS that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome. FDSWF is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization founded in 2006 and today serves more than 2,000 families in and around West Florida. FDSWF is affiliated with the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS), The Global Down Syndrome Foundation, and Down Syndrome Affiliates in Action.
