3 We invite you to be part of making day-to-day living for brain tumor patients a bit easier by joining forces with the Glenn Garcelon Foundation and becoming a Flagship Sponsor. Each year approximately 210,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a brain tumor that is an average of over 575 people every day. In addition to the often debilitating physical effects such as severe headaches, seizures, hearing loss, loss of balance and difficulties with coordination, brain tumors may also cause cognitive, behavioral and emotional problems. In some cases, these symptoms are severe enough that round-the-clock supervision is needed, forcing patients and their loved ones to face financial challenges after a brain tumor diagnosis. In 2010, the Glenn Garcelon Foundation was established to improve the quality of life of brain tumor patients by providing them with much needed emotional and financial support. Since 2012, the Glenn Garcelon Foundation has raised over $225,000 to help brain tumor patients and their families. We have been thrilled to award grants to those dealing with the devastating effects of brain cancer, including Patrick, whose tumor left him dependent upon a wheelchair and 24/7 care, who used his grant to buy a lift chair to make his life (and the lives of his caregivers) a bit easier; Dustin - a single father who had lost his business - used his grant to help with his exorbitant medical bills; Dwayne, was diagnosed with brain cancer in December, 2012 and passed away March 29, 2014, spent those 15 months in the hospital and his grant was used to pay bills that were piling up; and, Jennifer, who used her grant to pay for MRIs. She has suffered a drastic loss in income due to not being able to work and has maxed out with her medical insurance. In order to raise the money necessary to continue providing patients like Patrick and Dustin and Dwayne and Jennifer with the support they so desperately need, the Glenn Garcelon Foundation is hopeful that you will commit to becoming a sponsor. Your sponsorship will help assure that we can continue providing financial support to those living with brain tumors support that has an incredible way of relieving the stress with which they are dealing.
