2 Celebrating 15 YEARS This year, we invite you to be part of our special 15th anniversary of the Run or Walk for Southlake, as we celebrate the incredible success of this event, bringing our community together in support of our hospital. Every year more than 2000 participants, spectators and supporters come together with our staff, physicians and volunteers for this event. Each one has their own story of how they, or someone they know, has been impacted by the world-class care Southlake offers. But no matter what their reason, together they support a common cause and have helped to raise more than $1 million NET through the Run or Walk for Southlake since this event began. The Run or Walk for Southlake stems from the Bob Hartwell Challenge, honouring the memory of the generous and caring local businessman, civic leader and avid runner, who always held the health and wellbeing of his community near and dear. In his short 54 years he built a lasting legacy, inspiring countless others to take up his cause through this event to support access to health care close to home. This event has since evolved into one of Southlake s biggest annual signature events, and become a fixture in our community. But, just as Southlake touches the lives of people beyond York Region, participants come from all over to join in. From South Simcoe, Durham and Dufferin County, Toronto, and even as far as Muskoka, participants from 3 to 80 years old come to support quality health care for their family, friends and neighbours. 3 Every day at Southlake lives are transformed. A baby is born, a father s heart is repaired, a grandmother finishes her chemotherapy treatment. It s not just our incredible staff, physicians and volunteers who make that possible it s people like you. Like all hospitals, Southlake does not receive government funding to purchase new and replacement equipment, outside capital builds. That s why we rely on our community to help fund the most critical needs across the hospital, so that we can continue to provide the high-quality care that our patients expect and deserve. Thanks to generous community support, Southlake has transformed from a small community hospital to a Regional Centre of Excellence, continuously expanding services to support our patients, from York Region to Muskoka. From our #1 Regional Cancer Program in the province (based on 16 performance indicators), to our advanced Regional Cardiac Care Program, which has served more than 120,000 patients in the last 12 years, and everything in between, we at Southlake continue to serve the most important health care needs in our community.
