1 Newsletter/ Cylchlythyr 13 th July 2018 Dear Parents & Guardians, Parental Concerns. During this busy time I have been responding to parental concerns regarding a couple of matters. I would like to take this opportunity to address these to you all to ensure clearer communication. Junior Sports Day - I sympathise with parents frustration with regards to the cancelled sports day and as the children and staff have worked so hard preparing for the event, I rearranged for the children to have sporting activities so they didn t lose out. I have had many calls and s regarding the cancelling of the sports day, then further calls and s regarding that parents weren t invited to the activities so following a meeting with a PTA member yesterday morning, who was representing a number of upset parents, it was agreed that parents would be allowed to come to watch the activities informally. As a result of this decision, I have received further calls and s from working parents. In order to reduce the possibility of this happening again I will be surveying the children to see which way they would like Summer Sporting Events in future. Again I apologise for any upset caused and I will relay your concerns to the PTA. Reports I have always sent the reports home on the last day of term. My reasoning for this is to ensure that the majority of the children attend school to the end of term. As you are aware, the last few years has seen the school calendar fall on mid- week end of terms. It is my duty to ensure that we take all measures to promote good attendance. This is important to your child and to the school as all schools are monitored on whole school attendance by the local authority, Central South Consortium and Welsh Government. This is also reported on by ESTYN. Following on from requests from parents I have taken the decision to send out the reports on Friday 20 th July 2018, this will allow parents to respond/ query the content of the report before the end of term. Transition days Class move up day was a success today and the teachers are excited to meet their new classes. This one day transition is something we have done for many years at Ogmore Vale. In addition, we also do transition play times for the year groups (especially year 2) and this has been planned from next week. Meet and Greet events these events are happening next week and they will give you an opportunity to meet your child s class teacher. Unfortunately, due to matters out of our control, there are some classes with temporary teachers. We have been working relentlessly to ensure that we appoint before September to provide consistency for our children. We are holding interviews next week and the week after that to secure posts from September and we hope that the successful candidates will be able to visit the school on the last day to meet the children. Arrangements will be made for you to meet your child s new class teacher in early September. To reiterate, we have not been able to address this earlier due to matters out of our control and we would like to thank you for your understanding and patience with the matter. As a school, we pride ourselves on our relationship with parents and we have always strived to involve the community with school life. We listen to all parent concerns Attendance. This week, our whole school attendance is 92.5% (our target is 96%). Congratulations to SPARROW class with 96% and HERON class with 98.2% for coming top of your departments!
2 Savings Club. Wednesday was the last day for savings club, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support this year. For any children that would like to continue saving or withdraw any money over the holidays, please visit or call for more information. Change of dates.. Please note there has been a change to the dates below, we have an INSET Day on Monday 3 rd September, children from Reception to Year 6 will be returning to school on Tuesday 4 th September, and Nursery children will be returning on Thursday 6 th September. Thank You. A big thank you to Mr Huw Thomas (parent Governor) who works for Admiral for letting us know that we could apply for funding from their Community Chest. We have received good news confirming that we have been granted 600, this will pay for the climbing frame in the infants to be fixed My nametags. The PTA have set up a fundraising account with My Nametags, to organise the sale of labels and thereby raise funds and help our school. The School can make 20% per order My Nametags' school labels are perfect for rough everyday school use, and the labels stay on wash after wash. The Stickers can also be used for school ties, other school wear and any other clothing, as well as for all equipment, such as PE bags, shoes, lunchboxes, bottles and books. Please see the poster attached to this newsletter for the School ID when ordering. Thank you. Dates for the diary. Wednesday 18 th July Friday 20 th July 2018 Year 6 Manor Adventure trip.
