1 Dear Colleagues, Every year, the Institute on Violence Abuse and Trauma (IVAT) and the National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence Across the Lifespan (NPEIV) seek to honor those among us who have made significant inroads in the struggle to end violence in the home, the community, and around the world. To that end, we will present seven very special awards at our 22 nd annual Summit that will be held September 22-27, 2017 in San Diego, CA. NPEIV sponsors the Paul Fink Interpersonal Violence Prevention Award (Named in honor of the late Dr. Fink in IVAT awards include; The Lifetime Achievement in Advocacy Award, The William Friedrich Memorial Child Sexual Abuse Research, Assessment &/or Treatment Award, The Linda Saltzman Memorial Intimate Partner Violence Researcher Award, The Rosalie S. Wolf Memorial Elder Abuse Prevention Award, The Returning Veterans Resiliency in Response to Trauma Award and The Donald Fridley Memorial Award for Excellence in Training and Mentoring. Each award is described below: Sponsored by NPEIV: Paul Fink Interpersonal Violence Prevention Award (Named in honor of the late Dr. Fink in 2014). The NPEIV Paul Fink Interpersonal Violence Prevention Award is given to an individual or agency that has made significant contributions to our understanding of how multiple forms of violence are related and the importation of addressing them through development and implementation of an integrated violence prevention approach. The award has been named to honor the work of the late Paul Fink who was a longtime Clinical Psychiatry News columnist and editorial adviser, and a key leader in the field of psychiatry (he worked to prevent child abuse and the treatment of trauma). This award is based upon nominations to the NPEIV Awards committee, and the final determination by the committee. The award is also presented by the Leadership Council on Child Abuse and Interpersonal Violence. Dr. Fink was the former president of Leadership Council. Sponsored by IVAT Lifetime Achievement in Advocacy Award A family violence advocate must exemplify compassion, wisdom, and tirelessness. They serve those who most need an ally during the most painful of times. This award honors and encourages the qualities of an advocate by recognizing outstanding life achievement on behalf of victims of family violence. The William Friedrich Memorial Child Sexual Abuse Research, Assessment and/or Treatment Award This award is dedicated to the memory of William Friedrich, Ph.D., who dedicated his life to ending child sexual abuse through research, assessment, and clinical treatment. This award encourages these qualities by recognizing either new or established researchers or practitioners who have made substantial contributions to the field of child sexual abuse. Linda Saltzman Memorial Intimate Partner Violence Researcher Award This is a recent award that was first given at the 2007 conference. It is a joint award given by IVAT and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). This award is dedicated to the memory of Linda Saltzman, Ph.D., who dedicated her life to ending intimate partner violence through research. This award encourages continued research in this field by recognizing either new or established researchers who have made substantial contributions to the field of intimate partner violence. The Rosalie S. Wolf Memorial Elder Abuse Award This award is dedicated to the memory of Rosalie S. Wolf, PhD who was the driving force behind the elder abuse prevention movement. Dr. Wolf founded and served as the President of NCPEA, edited the Journal of Elder Abuse & Neglect, conducted groundbreaking research and served as the founding Chairperson of INPEA. The honoree in the national and international categories may be either an individual or organization that has demonstrated dedication and commitment to the ideals of Rosalie Wolf to prevent and reduce the incidence of elder abuse through research,

2 education, policy or practice. To remind us of her work and efforts, we initiated the Rosalie S. Wolf Annual Memorial Panel and we have created the Annual Rosalie S. Wolf Memorial Elder Abuse Prevention Award. The Returning Veterans Resiliency in Response to Trauma Award This award is given to a veteran who has experienced specific trauma in war and in response has chosen to work to alleviate the trauma experienced by others. This award will identify a veteran whose work has had a notably restorative impact on a traumatized population due to effort, therapeutic and other positive qualities, and advocacy of the veteran who is chosen for this award. The Donald Fridley Memorial Award for Excellence in Training and Mentoring This is a new award this year that is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Donald Fridley, a Southern California based psychologist considered to be the "clinician's clinician.' Dr. Fridley was a master at training and mentoring other therapists and helping them develop and hone their talents and skills. He was a past president of the International Society for the Study of Trauma & Dissociation, their newsletter editor, and a member of their Professional Training Faculty. This award is given to an individual or organization that through innovative activities, strategies, and methodologies has contributed to the training, mentoring, and development of future generations of mental health care providers.
