1 District 22W, District Governor Gerry Beachy October, 2018 Region III, Zone III Meeting on the first and third Tuesday at the Liberty Road Seafood and Steak Liberty Road, Frederick, MD From President Jack Niemiec Fellow Lions and Friends, President: Jack Niemiec (301) st VP: Bob Flaherty (301) Secretary: Bill Strauss (410) Treasurer: Susan Baldwin (301) Membership Chair: Marvin Curtis (301) Visit us at and Libertytown-Unionville- Thank you to all who were able to work at the 156 th Great Frederick Fair! Treasurer Sue Baldwin reported that we made $4, in profit. Last year we made $4,541 after taxes. So, we had about the same amount of profit each year. Well done, since we had several days of rain, and the tractor pull event was canceled this year. As you know, 100% of the profit goes to those in need in our community. All administrative costs are borne by you, the Lions. Few charities return 100% of donations/fund raising profit to the people or their cause. Lions clubs have often been cited as outstanding charitable organizations not only for their financial efficiency but also for the many people and causes they serve. I am looking forward to Fall in Frederick and Carroll Counties. Beautiful countryside painted with autumn s varied colored leaves. With all the rain we had, the creeks, rivers, and lakes will be swollen and full of wild life. We begin October with our dinner meeting at Liberty Road Seafood & Steak on Tuesday the 2 nd. Saturday, October 6 th, is the District 22W Social that is always a fun time. October 16 th is the District Governor s Official Visit. I hope many of you can attend that meeting to hear our governor speak. October 27 th is the Melvin Jones Breakfast for our many award recipients and guests. Then hold on to your hats because Halloween, Thanksgiving, and our Christmas Party on December 18 th are not far behind! On a personal note, Anne and I thank you for your well wishes, cards, flowers, fruit basket (didn t last long!), candies, and prayers. They all helped, especially prayers. Anne s surgery was fully successful. She was up two days after the surgery and left Mercy Hospital two days after that on Sunday, September 16 th, her birthday! Yours in Lionism, Lion Jack

3 International President Message Susan Baldwin at the next meeting or as soon as you are able. If you plan to pay quarterly, please let her know. Dear Lion, The hard work of every Lion is critical to our global impact. We each bring hope and dignity through our service, but there s only so much we can do on our own. With the support of Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), our global Foundation, we can accomplish so much more together. That s why LCIF launched Campaign 100: LCIF Empowering Service. Campaign 100 will empower the service of Lions around the world, helping us do what Lions do best serve. Keep reading to see how 100% of your generous financial gift supports your causes, your programs and your service. In friendship, Gudrun Yngvadottir Your International President News & Concerns Lion Harriet Brown would like us to remember that she is the new Health/Wellness Committee Chair and would like us to pass on to her the name of anyone who is sick or has lost a dear one so that she can respond with a card or flowers from the club. She can be reached as follows: Telephone: (301) or Leader Dogs for the Blind The 2018 bus trip to Leader Dogs for the Blind in Michigan will be from Wednesday October 24 to Friday October 26. District 22W hopes to fill a 50-person motor coach; if you are interested in going on the bus trip, please contact 2 nd VDG Evan Gillett at (240) as soon as possible. October Meetings Lion Sue Baldwin has invited Wade Cooney, a member of the Linganore Grange to speak to us at our October 2 nd meeting. Long-time members may remember that we used to meet at the Linganore Grange Hall in Unionville each month alternating with the Methodist church in Libertytown. We will be honored to host our district governor, DG Gerry Beachy at our October 15 th meeting. This will be the occasion of his official visit to our club. All members of the board should be in attendance for a short board meeting with the district governor after the regular meeting. DG Gerry will also be officially inducting our newest member, Lion Ray Wolfe. The Great Frederick Fair The Great Frederick Fair of 2018 is now history and it was very special because our new trailer was in use. There were many comments about this; some said they thought we were not at the fair but either noticed us or were told by others that we were in our same spot with a different food trailer. We posted three 8½ x11 pictures of our old trailer in living yellow with the words Rest in Peace above it and beneath it. We plan to do this in the future, but enlarge the picture so that it can be seen at a distance. At press time, the treasurer did not have final figures of our profit, but should be in the order of $4,400 - $4,700. Service hours were calculated to be 516 hours which included 16 Lions and 8 non-lion volunteers; many thanks to all who were able to make this event another successful one. District Social The District 22W Social honoring DG Gerry Beachy and First Lady Sue will be held on Saturday October 6 at the Clarion Inn Frederick Event Center. Our International guest will be International Director Nicolas Xinopolos from Indiana Club Dues Club dues for year were due July 1, Our Treasurer reports that just a little over 50% of our membership have paid, so if you have not done so, please pay Treasurer 3
