6 At the Homeless Coalition, our mission is to alleviate and prevent hunger and homelessness. Thanks to your support, we accomplish this through our programs and services: Bridges Out of Poverty This workshop examines the dynamics that cause poverty both individual and social and allow it to continue. At the foundation of the program is the belief that poverty, middle class and wealth are the products of either abundance or a lack of resources. Bridges teaches participants real-world skills and provides them with tools and strategies they need to remove barriers to their independence. The Homeless Coalition has already held graduation ceremonies for the more than 170 participants who have completed the 14-week program and are moving forward becoming financially independent. 7 Hunger Prevention The program is based on the philosophy that no one in our community should go to bed hungry. To meet this goal, we offer fresh fruits and vegetables accessible through our weekly food pantry. The hot meals program is open all year-round and serves breakfast, lunch and nighttime snacks to shelter residents and dinner to the general public in the Homeless Coalition s dining room. Over the last year, the program has served more than 75,000 hot meals and snacks, and our food pantry delivered more than 65,000 meals to those in need. Page 7

8 Emergency Shelter Our emergency shelter is the only one of its kind in our community. Safe and supervised, the shelter allows clients to stay up to 30 days. In addition to serving single men and women, and keeping families intact, the shelter also has 20 beds for Veterans in support of the national initiative to End Veteran Homelessness. Since opening more than eight years ago, the shelter has served nearly 4,000 homeless individuals and families, with an amazing percentage of those residents over 84% moving into permanent housing.
