Knights of Heroes Woodcarver Road, Suite 119 Colorado Springs, CO Phone: (719) Web: Sponsorship Guide 1 February, 2015 RISE UP!
Who We Are The Knights of Heroes Foundation (KOH) hosts an annual, one-week summer camp where families of fallen military fathers from across the nation are invited to attend at absolutely no cost. Lodging and travel arrangements are provided for the families that attend from outside the local area. Campers are matched with trained mentors who provide positive encouragement and help to instill the KOH core values. During the week of camp, they take part in outdoor adventure activities including rafting, horseback riding, shooting, fishing, mountain biking, hiking and much more. While the kids are at camp, the moms and younger siblings spend the week visiting sites in and around Colorado Springs, sharing experiences and building relationships with other families who have experienced a similar loss. The camp was founded on Christian values but is not a Bible camp. Families of all beliefs and from every background are welcome. The first camp was held in June of 2007 under the name "Modern Day Knights." The camp was so successful, Knights of Heroes was established as a non-profit (501(c)3) organization the following November. The program has continued to grow each year; and in 2011, the first girls program was held. In 2014, twenty-four girls spent the week at Peaceful Valley Ranch while fifty-two boys attended the boys camp at Tahosa Boy Scout Camp. Thirty-one moms and eleven younger siblings spent the week in Colorado Springs taking part in their own programs. This past year, we opened a local office, and currently the foundation is comprised of one part-time paid office administrator, a six-person volunteer Board of Directors and seventy-five seasonal volunteer mentors. Testimonials The impact this program has on the families that attend is best expressed by the participants themselves. Here are a few testimonials from our incredible families: When my husband died 5 1/2 years ago, one of my biggest fears was raising 2 boys alone without their dad. I was very concerned about raising them to become great men of courage, faith, and confidence. I wanted my boys to have great men in their lives as role models. I am very grateful to Steve and the organization for bringing my boys into this family of courageous, Christian men. It makes my heart smile when a mentor affirms my parenting and compliments my son s character, leadership, and his abilities. It is healing for me and for both of my children. After my husband died, my oldest son's confidence plummeted. However, within this organization, he receives encouragement, team building, leadership, and life skills. They are learning to be grateful and to give back to the community. The mentors are grooming our sons to grow into hardworking, faithful, committed men. The mentors
give their time and efforts to the organization wholeheartedly. I know they truly love our children. The volunteers dedicate many hours to the organization to ensure they are meeting the needs of the leadership, families and organization as a whole. I am grateful that we are a part of this organization. Both of my boys look forward to camp each year. They feel safe, secure and most of all normal. They understand that they're not alone in this grief journey. They are building life-long friends who will share the journey with them. Thanks to Knights of Heroes. KOH has meant the world to my sons and I. This year was our third year, truly an amazing time. Though I know the program was originally intended with the children in mind; the help and support the moms and younger siblings program has provided has helped me cope with losing my husband better than any other therapy I could have received! My older son continues to flourish and advance with the help of selfless mentors. The praise, guidance and devotion they demonstrate is a testament to what KOH is all about. My younger son has found so much comfort in being with children just like himself. As a fourth-year mother this year, I am looking forward to help raising funds for this remarkable program as well as offering in any other way I possibly can. Project Summary The foundation has reached the point where we are ready to expand to a year-round program and open the doors to a larger audience. To do this, we must have a permanent camp location. KOH is currently under contract to purchase an expansive 115-acre mountain property that is perfectly suited to meet the needs of the foundation and provide unlimited opportunity for growth. That location is currently called the Gold Camp Ranch. It is located on Gold Camp Road near Victor, Colorado. Close proximity to Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak National Forest, BLM land, Eleven Mile Canyon, Cathedral Park, Phantom Canyon, Skagway Reservoir and Cañon City provide opportunities for all of the activities that make up the KOH wilderness adventure curriculum. The Knights of Heroes Foundation is embarking on a capital campaign to raise funds for the purchase of the Gold Camp Ranch. For the past seven years, KOH has paid to use campgrounds for the girls and boys programs. In 2014, the lodging cost to KOH was $33,000 for one week. Owning property will allow KOH to host multiple programs throughout the year and offer the families we serve a place of respite and support when needed. Annual operating costs for owning this property are estimated to be $32,000, an amount that will actually decrease the operating budget while providing the tremendous added benefit of year-round access. Additionally, there is the potential for KOH to rent out the property, providing an additional revenue stream to cover the KOH annual operating budget. Our goal is to host our 10 th annual summer camp (2016) on our new property. As we pursue this vision, KOH is offering sponsorships in the form of pledges to be applied to property and/or infrastructure costs. There are several levels of sponsorship opportunities ranging from $1,000 to $500,000. Please consider joining us on this incredible adventure and becoming a permanent member of the Knights of Heroes Foundation.
Levels of Sponsorship The first sponsorship opportunity is the Flagpole sponsorship. The donations will be used for miscellaneous improvement to the property to include, shooting range, archery range, pavilion construction, etc. Flagpole sponsors will have their names engraved on a plaque that will sit at the base of the flagpole, which is the center of the camp. One hundred Flagpole sponsorships are being offered at $1,000 each. The second opportunity is a Cabin sponsorship. There are currently ten cabins on the property that require renovation. The cabin you sponsor will be named in honor of you or your organization and a placard will be placed above the door of the cabin, proudly displaying the name of the sponsor. Ten Cabin sponsorships are being offered at $20,000 each. The third level of sponsorship is the Ropes Course sponsorship. Teaching our campers to overcome their fears and work together as a team is a critical part of instilling the core values of KOH. The Ropes Course has a climbing component and team challenge component. Each segment will have a separate sponsor. Once again, the sponsor s name will appear at the entrance to their component of the Ropes Course. Two Ropes Course sponsorships are being offered at $50,000 each. The fourth level of sponsorship is the Lodge sponsorship. The existing lodge on the property requires expansion as well as renovation of the kitchen facility. Additionally, the foundation will be constructing a shower/bathroom facility to accommodate the campers and mentors. Placards will be placed at the entrance to the lodge, identifying our Lodge sponsors. Three Lodge sponsorships are being offered at $100,000 each.
The final level of sponsorship is the Land sponsorship. This is an exclusive offer to one organization or individual and will be used to purchase the property. The contract price is $735,000. The foundation has $235,000 available for a down payment, and an additional $500,000 is required to pay for the property upfront and avoid a monthly mortgage. The name of the camp has not been determined; this will be decided by the campers at the 2015 camp. Once a name is chosen, the property will be identified as, Knights of Heroes, Camp XXXX, sponsored by (name of Land sponsor). One Land sponsorship is being offered at $500,000. Why a Pledge? The premise behind the pledge concept is to ensure donations are utilized for their intended purpose. The foundation is currently under contract to purchase the property. If everything stays on schedule, pledges will be collected on 7 May 2015, the close-date of the property purchase. Site Development Plan The site development plan will be complete on 1 March. For updates on our progress, please visit our website at Thank You Thank you for considering a donation to the Knights of Heroes Foundation. We are very excited for what the future holds. By donating, you are making a difference in the lives of our incredible families.
