THE NAMI WALK FOR MENTAL HEALTH- SAVE THE DATE The NAMI Walk will be held on May 11 th at Burke High School NAMI Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) Schedule October 4-5: Charleston PD November 12-16: Charleston County Sheriff s Office The first day (Thursday) is Faces (volunteers will share their story). The second day (Friday) is Scripted Scenarios (Role Playing). Both sessions we try to start promptly at 8:30 am.

(ADHD, Depression, Bipolar, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder or others?) 5 NAMI Charleston Area October 2018 Page 5 NAMI STATEWIDE TRAINING EVENT: NOVEMBER 9-11 th The training will take place at the White Oak Conference Center, Winnsboro, SC. Trainees will be reimbursed for their training and transportation expenses. Below are the training courses offered. NAMI Family to Family - (30 hour, 12 session class for family members of consumers - NAMI signature program) This course is for families, partners and friends of individuals diagnosed with mental illness and dwells on the emotional responses families have to the trauma of mental illness. Many families describe their experience in the program as life-changing. The Family to Family Course was recently acknowledged to be an Evidence Based Practice. Teacher trainees should have attended a Family to Family Course if it is available in their area. The training begins at 9:00 am on Friday, November 9 th. Family Support Group Facilitator - (support group facilitated by family members of those living with mental health conditions) Most of our statewide affiliates offer support groups during the course of the month to families in their community. These free meetings of parents, caregivers and friends of individuals with a mental illness can talk frankly about their challenges and concerns and help one another through their learned wisdom. Participants are encouraged to share actively in the work of the group. Facilitator trainees should be family members of individuals living with a mental illness. The training begins at 1:30 pm on Friday, November 9 th. NAMI Connection - (support group for peers facilitated by a team of those living in recovery from their mental health condition) NAMI Connection is a free, weekly, 90 minute recovery support group for people living with mental illness where people learn from one another s experiences, share coping strategies and offer mutual encouragement and understanding. The groups provide an ongoing opportunity to discuss the challenges of living with mental illness and techniques for maintaining wellness. Facilitator trainees are peers living in recovery.
