1 K OF C 9475 FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES BOOK SALE: The book sale is held every fall and spring in a donated commercial space. Books are sold for $1 each. All members are requested to donate books. Volunteers are needed for the following activities: Chairman: John Murphy, nlm1292@comcast.net Pick up donated books Transport books to and from the sale location from our storage facilities Manning the sales tables during the sale SPAGHETTI DINNER: A spaghetti dinner is held at the COK Life Center every September and April. All members are expected to sell tickets. Volunteers are needed for the following activities: Chairman: Mark Lazo, lazoma@bellsouth.net Cooking Set Up Facility Serving Dinner Serving Wine Cleaning Facility OPERATION HOPE: Operation Hope is a fund raising activity for mentally challenged. This activity is organized by the state leadership. We hand out Tootsie Rolls and collect donations at participating commercial sites. There are 2-3 of these events held annually. Volunteers are needed for the following activities: Chairman: Jack Vax, jjvax@bellsouth.net Contact Wal Mart and organize dates Participate as a donation collector at the site 1

2 CHRISTMAS WREATH SALES: Christmas Wreaths are decorated and sold in conjunction with the annual Christmas Tree Sales at Christ Our King. Duties involve decorating the purchased wreaths with pine cones and bows Thanksgiving weekend and manning the sales table at COK. Volunteers are needed for the following: Chairman: Tom Franzone, Decorate Christmas Wreaths Manning the Sales Table at Event OYSTER ROAST: The Oyster Roast is held annually at Gold Bug Island the last Saturday in January. All members are expected to sell tickets. Volunteers are needed for the following activities: Chairman: Tom Franzone, Ticket Sales at Churches Ticket Sales at Event Set Up Facility Clean Up Facility Solicit Silent Auction and Door Prize Donations Wine and Beer Ticket Sales at Event Serve Wine and Hot Dogs Cook Hot Dogs and Fish Stew Car Parking 2

3 COOPER RIVER BRIDGE RUN: Donors sign pledges to support our running and walking team Charity In Motion. Volunteers are needed to participate as runners, walkers or members who solicit pledges. Chairman: Jonathon Santilli, Runner or Walker Solicit Pledges and Donations SERVICE ACTIVITIES CHRIST OUR KING ANNUAL BAZAAR: The Knights set up and man a food booth for the festival. Volunteers are needed for the following activities: Chairman: Matt Story, mstory@clawsonandstaubes.com Set Up Facility Clean Up Facility Cooking Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken Strips and French Fries Serving Food and Drinks CHRIST OUR KING ALTER SERVER: The Knights perform alter server duties at the 7:30 am Mass at COK on Sundays. Three servers are needed for each Mass and training is provided. Volunteers are needed for: Chairman: Tom Franzone, Tzone1941@aol.com Alter Server 3

4 RIGHT TO LIFE MARCH: Every January there is a Right to Life March in Columbia. A married couple acts as the leadership for organizing our Council participation. The Council will pay for the couple to attend the national activity in Washington, DC. Volunteers are needed for: Chairpersons: Bill and Gloria Harrington billysi50@hotmail.com Participants in Columbia MEMBERSHIP/RETENTION: The committee has the duty of recruiting new members and retaining new members as active participants in the council activities. The committee can be involved in activities such as a membership blitz conducted by phone or recruitment at the churches. Chairman: Jack Urbanic, ozzieu@att.net Participants in the membership blitz YOUTH FREE THROW CONTEST: The Free Throw Contest is a nationally sponsored event held every January/February. Winners from East Cooper participate in District followed by State and National contests. We have a history of having State and National winners. This involves the middle schools in East Cooper. It requires that the contests be coordinated with the schools, members organize and referee the contests and certificates and patches are awarded. Volunteers are needed for the following activities: Chairman: Matt Story, mstory@clausonandstaubes.com School Organization and Coordination Referee Contests at Schools 4

5 Referee District Contests MENTOR: A mentorship program is being organized to integrate new members into the activities of the Council. Mentors need to be Knights actively involved in meeting attendance and participation in the Fundraising, Service and Social activities of the Council. Each new 1 st Degree member will be assigned a mentor who will ensure that they are actively solicited to participate in our activities and to provide guidance. Chairman: Jim Pancake, j_pancake@msn.com Mentor Volunteer ANNUAL STATE RAFFLE: Tickets are sold by the Council annually to support the charitable state activities of the Knights. If we sell a predetermined quota amount some of the funds are returned to our Council to support our charitable activities. All members are expected to purchase and/or sell raffle tickets. Volunteers are needed for the following activities: Chairman: Tom Kelly, tkellyinsc@gmail.com Coordinator Mail books of tickets to members STELLA MARIS SOUP AND SANDWICH SUPPER: Following Mass at SM on the first Wednesday in Lent Knights are requested to prepare soup and sandwiches at home to bring to the church hall on Sullivan s Island for dinner. Volunteers are needed for the following activities: Chairman: Jack Urbanic, ozzieu@att.net Prepare Food at Home 5

6 Serve and Clean Up at the Hall WIDOWS MEMORIAL DINNER: Widows of deceased Council members are escorted to Mass on All Souls Day followed by dinner at a local restaurant. Volunteers are needed for the following activities: Chairman: Jack Urbanic, ozzieu@att.net Notify the Widows Provide Transportation if Required Coordinate the Restaurant 6

7 SOCIAL ACTIVITIES SOCIAL ACTIVITIES (ANNUAL): The social activities are intended to bond the Knights and their families with each other as part of our Fellowship requirements. There is not any charge for attending these events. For the Fall, Christmas, Superbowl and Wine Tasting socials the host family provides the facility (usually home) for the activity on a Friday or Saturday night. Attending Knights and spouses bring an appetizer or dessert. The Council provides beverages. Only the Family Picnic in the Spring requires a committee. Volunteers are needed for the following activities: Host Family: Fall-Mickey McMahon Christmas-Carl Geier Superbowl-Neil Whitman Wine Tasting- Michael Swindle Family Picnic Coordinator-Neil Whitman Cooking Duties at Family Picnic Set Up and Clean Up SOCIAL ACTIVITIES (PERIODIC): Periodically other social activities requiring members to pay for participation. A Harbor Boat Cruise may be held in the Fall. A Dance may be held in the Spring for events such as St. Patrick s Day. A Religious Retreat may be held at Mepkin Abbey or other religious site usually during Lent. These activities are at the discretion of the Officers of the Council who will coordinate and seek committee members if they are to be held. 7
